Why all the mockery? Why on earth would anyone have any idea that 14 sticks of gum would kill them?... They wouldn't, it's not common sense to know that it would either :/
If there's a risk damn right there should be an appropriate warning yes, ignorance is not bliss unless you believe in a true blue mushroom existence.

Livia 06-05-2015 07:24 PM

By that logic, everything in the world should have a warning on it.

Kizzy 06-05-2015 07:46 PM

No that isn't what I said is it? Every food stuff that could potentially kill you after 14 portions should yes.

Livia 06-05-2015 07:49 PM

Start a campaign, why don't you. Not that there isn't a squillion other more important issues you could be raising, let's get a big red warning on chewing gum.

so dumb. you can also die from drinking too much water. The Darwin award should go to this woman. R.I.P.

14 sticks of gum didn't kill her.

14 sticks of gum every single day for many YEARS did. anything in excess can kill you, everyone knows that.

I'm commenting on the thread, I thought having a say on the topic was kind of the point here.
Yes, if there is an issue surrounding the use of artificial sweeteners let's have a warning on the products containing them, recommended daily consumption guidelines maybe, I'd consider that ethical.

Yes, everyone was just having their say... and some of us were disagreeing with you. That's what debate is all about.

I don't agree with trying to legislate for the stupidest, most over-indulgent people in society. It doesn't work because stupid, over-indulgent people are so ingenious.

If it makes you feel better to mock the dead go right ahead, just don't quote me when you do in future please.

Where in the article is the timescale? I can't see one.

it said it caused her malnutrition low levels of nutrients, like potassium etc... you can't get mal nutrition from one day chewing gum. it must have been over a long time to get her levels that low.

It sounded to me like she was chewing gum as part of an eating disorder. many anorexics and bulimics use chewing gum to curb their hunger and satisfy their oral fixations. and malnutrition is why many people with eating disorders die, especially from lack of potassium.

(i'm a former bulimic)

It doesn't take years to die from malnutrition either though.
If that was a contributory factor I'm sure that would've been picked up at the autopsy?

A little dramatic, don't you think?

the excessive chewing causes the sinus problems too, that alone can be dangerous over extended periods.

Kizzy 06-05-2015 11:01 PM

There are many sources on this website, I won't quote them as I'm not sure about permissions but the information is there for whoever wishes to read it.
