Outside of Sarah, the writers of Arrow, Flash and LoT really don't know how to write female characters that aren't massive killjoys/damsels in distress.

Kendra's the worst of the bunch. I want HAWKGIRL, not this hateful coffee obsessed cretin.

Lostie! 19-05-2016 11:11 PM

Just watched the penultimate episode ahead of tonight's finale.

Spoiler:

The Time Masters ordered the murder of Rip's family?! I knew they were a tad dickish but :o

Lostie! 04-08-2016 11:48 PM

So I just read that Matt Letscher and John Barrowman are gonna be in Season 2 as regulars, and Neal McDonough is gonna appear on a recurring basis, they're having Thawne, Darhk and Merlyn be part of the "Legion of Doom". I'm here for Thawne as I've always loved him on The Flash (and I've wanted us to see more of Letscher as the character), I liked Darhk too (even though I hated Season 4 of Arrow).

I've been bored of Merlyn for a while though. He was great in Season 1 of Arrow but they made him repetitive and irritating when they decided to bring him back beyond that first season arc. Hopefully Merlyn in Legends is an interesting villain again.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers is also gonna be a regular as another version of Vixen (the grandmother of the one who appeared on Arrow). I loved Maisie on The Originals so I'm down for this too.

I still haven't even watched the finale yet :worry:

I've just finished watching this and I have to say I pretty enjoyed it, I did find some episodes boring but it didn't put me off. The characters on this :flutter: I didn't even hate/dislike or find anyone meh which is quite rare for me but If I had to pick a favourite then it has to be Sara. It's nice to see the Prison Break brothers and someone who played superman on this show too. Looking forward to season 2.

Nicky91 27-07-2019 04:43 PM

i'm currently watching this, currently at ep12 of season 1

loving Sara, but also Victor Garber in a great role as Martin Stein (one half of firestorm)

Spoiler:

episode 11 of season 1 is one to watch, for even the non-fans of superheroes, in the wild west  love that western and superhero bit crossover

user104658 29-07-2019 09:17 AM

Ahh I still like Legends, it's totally embraced being daft and over-the-top at some point in the way that they other DC shows don't, and just goes with it now. It's usually a fun watch

Spoiler:

When a Unicorn, which actually turn out to be brutal murderous things that like stabbing people through the heart with their horn, bit off Gary's nipple before Constantine sent it to hell, and then later he got his nipple back from hell but it was now a demonic nipple (from being in hell) and possessed him :flutter:

anyone else still following this

season 6 is current season, to sum it up quickly, this time its all about aliens

current legends are

Spoiler:

Ava Sharpe
Mick Rory
Zari Tarazi (yes Tarazi now in current timeline, and Zari Tomaz in the air totem)
Behrad Tarazi
Esperanza ''Spooner'' Cruz
Nate Heywood
Astra Logue
John Constantine

currently MIA, but alive Sara Lance (on a alien planet, with Gary whom is revealed to be an alien all along)

so far, we've had a younger david bowie, John F Kennedy/Fidel Castro historical characters, we even went to animated scene
Spoiler:

thx to Astra with a deluded magician who was trapped in a painting, played by Matt Lucas

we had music feature of The Buzzcocks ''ever fallen in love with someone''

all in all, this is still good fun to watch, but very comical

the new Zari, lets say she was a real stereotype of a spoiled rich social media influencer/businesswoman/self made woman at first, but becomes more and more likeable, and now we got the whole Zari/John romance, he also makes her become a better person

user104658 19-07-2021 02:13 PM

Legends is fun; definitely to be taken tongue-in-cheek. They even break the 4th wall occasionally; e.g. one of them telling the new crewmate "this is last year's season finale" when they travel back to try to stop Sarah being abducted (and Nate saying something like "season finales are great, except that one where I died...").

It's always a good light-hearted watch though.

Thought this was an interesting one as a ye olde post from 2016 - I definitely agree that this was the case at the time, but the female characters in Legends are consistently pretty great these days, for several seasons.

They're still not great in Flash though. I wonder if the writing teams diverged significantly? Although that said, a LOT of the characters in The Flash are pretty annoying.

user104658 19-07-2021 02:30 PM

On the topic of the DC shows - the new Superman is also actually surprisingly decent. I think bolstered by the fact that it seems to have a (much??) higher effects budget than most of the CW-DC shows? They're consistently movie-quality. Even the teen characters aren't too annoying. I mean... a little bit. But not that much and the focus is on them less than I initially thought it was going to be, it does mainly stick with the title and focus on Superman and Lois.

It seemed totally unrelated to the other shows at one point though, to the point where I thought it might actually be, but the most recent ep FINALLY confirmed it's still in the same universe with a John Diggle/Argus appearance (and Oliver Queen name drop). Still no Kara though . Perhaps not surprising as I think she's recently had a baby (in real life).

I've not seen it yet but it's the only DC show in aaaages where I've not actually heard anyone have anything bad to say about it. I was a bit salty at first because I thought it might include the Super Sons as they are in the comics, but they were ten (Jon) and thirteen (Damian), now seventeen (Jon) and fourteen (Damian) (don't ask) so that was never likely for a CW show.

I like that Steel is in the show, he's been fairly overlooked these days. If the rumoured "Black Superman" film comes to pass, Irons would be a good candidate for the lead role instead of blackwashing Clark Kent. There are a few black Supermen in DC canon, he's probably the best choice.

edit - has Bart Allen been in Flash yet? I like that he and Tim Drake are finally getting the live action treatment.

Not going to lie, Jordan

Spoiler:

The only one of the two brothers that's developing powers BUT THERE'S A TWIST he's always been the less confident/outgoing of the two... of course...

is slightly irritating at times but he's not too bad. It's otherwise been good and one of the few shows I actually watch on release day rather than letting it stack up until I can be bothered.

As for Bart Allen... I don't THINK he's been in it but there have been so many speedsters :umm2:. I think the only iterations of THE "actual" Flash have been Barry Allen and Jay Garrick. Obviously there's been Wally West as well but only ever under the title Kid Flash, he's never been a full red-suited Flash.

[edit] In a bizarre twist I was literally watching the second-to-most recent episode and he's only gone and just turned up :joker:.

Spoiler:

Not true to the comics version though I don't think. This version is Barry's son from the future, and twin brother of Nora West-Allen/"XS" who first appeared a couple of seasons back and is I think Barry's granddaughter in comics?

Comics!Bart is Barry's grandson from the future. Both of their fully names are Bartholomew!

As for XS, she's Bart's cousin in the comics rather than sister. As far as I know, no version of XS has been called Nora, she's usually (always?) Jenny. Both she and Bart are the kids of Tornado Twins, Barry and Iris' kids. But I guess they're the Tornado Twins in the Arrowverse!
I've not really "seen" much of XS, as she's in the Legion, which I don't really care about :joker:

but I think characterisation is more important than familial relations - is Bart a bit annoying, cringey, huggy, but well-read with an eidetic memory?

user104658 20-07-2021 06:31 PM

I dunno what he’s like he literally just turned up at the end of that episode, in an odd coincidence. He didn’t exist before, it was just XS who appeared from the future previously, but obviously someone dun ****ed with the timeline (again) because she turned up after being gone (back in the future…) for ages but with a brother this time.

I’d never heard of the Tornado Twins but yes it definitely sounds like they’ve streamlined those characters into two for telly purposes.

They’re also (quite overtly) hinting that John Diggle from Arrow will soon be becoming Green Lantern. Dunno if it’s getting a show or if he’ll just feature in guest stints across all the shows - he’s recently been in Flash and also Superman, and apparently Batwoman, but I don’t watch that. It was so bad when it started… I dunno if it improved but I’d have to be really lacking in things to watch to give it another shot.

Nicky91 13-10-2021 09:18 AM

Spoiler:

Bishop being back

love the tribute to silence of the lambs in that one episode

and also beast slayers bit like jumanji  cluedo vibes all over with that boardgame

Nicky91 27-10-2021 08:26 AM

start of season 7

remains so hilarious :clap1:

Spoiler:

so the legends are stuck in 1925 after a second waverider destroyed their waverider out of nothing

Nate accidentally killing J Edgar Hoover and Gary having to eat Hoover afterwards to get rid of the body :hehe:

one funny scene afterwards in the train when looking for who dislikes Hoover

one passenger to Gary: he gives you a weird uncomfortable aftertaste, Gary: tell me about it

:laugh3:

so they see another Hoover, but that one is a robot, sort of parody to Terminator and he self destructs when they had defeated him to protect Al Capone

so now the legends are on their way to a Dr Gwyn Davies for a time travel project happening in new york that year, Astra, Spooner and a human Gideon need to go there and prevent the rest getting killed

Nicky91 10-03-2022 09:42 AM

finished with season 7 now

was quite enjoyable

Spoiler:

''human'' Gideon vs ''Evil AI'' Gideon

quite a nice running gag how no one recognizes Gwyn how he resembles Constantine (since it is same actor) :fan:

still remains funny how there are two Zari's now (Zari Tarazi and Zari Tomaz but in the air totem, in the end Nate goes to live with his Zari Tomaz in that air totem)

cliffhanger ending again, the legends are heading to jail by some sort of time police, and also a new character Booster Gold/Mike whom is also escorted off to jail alongside them

the robot legends :laugh3: good one to trick robot Nate into becoming the next protector for WW1 fixed point :laugh3:

the scenes with Gary remain hilarious, also LOL at him having a relationship now with human Gideon :laugh3:

and Astra/Behrad being a thing

Sara/Ava wanting children and Sara is pregnant very easily because of a alien thing, if both think about children ur pregnant, and now she is no longer immortal and doesn't have healing powers while being pregnant
