I doubt if railstaff would relish the idea of playing nanny either, but it's an idea as was the female only carriages.. both have drawbacks. |

It would be interesting to know how many male are assaulted on trains Not sure why women are the focus, it's all very Victorian

There is a Few younger male ones but many will never report it as they are ashamed of it etc It appears so many late night women office workers are getting touched up. I would give them Pepper Spray but you must be trained to get his their "eyes" good |
Idk I have mixed feelings about this.
I can't see it being practical, but from what I understand is that these carriages would serve as a choice thing, meaning that it's not segregation as some people have put it, but women if they feel like they might be harassed can go in there. But yeah it's only an idea and not a policy, he says he will talk to women and they will ultimately decide whether or not it becomes a policy which is very sensible and I respect that. Who knows womens issues better than women? |

I guess some kind of campaign to support male victims of rape/assault/harassment could really help, the whole not-reporting thing is really awful and another product of the patriarchy which affects men too. But I do think that women are far more affected than men are by things like this. |

People are desperate for a stick to beat Corbyn with.
If it's worked well in other countries then I'd say give it a go. |

The only time I've ever been accosted on a train was by a drunken woman. Corbyn is an idiot perpetuating the myth that men are violent rapists and women are all sweetness and light. If that's true, how come there are so many violent women in prison right now?
|
I have no idea if this would work or not just because it has in other Countries, however I would rather take my chances in a mixed carriage if I was not travelling alone but with a son, brother, father, or any male sibling or friend, but that is just me. If women fought for equality, shouldn't they just be allowed to be treated as equals and not wrapped in cotton wool. Maybe the idea was well intentioned but also not thought out that well. Or maybe I make no sense, if so just ignore this post.

doesn't this fly in the face of equality?

This is not an issue where anything is really irrelevant or should be discounted. However, clearly there have been women who are worried about being harassed or sexually harassed on trains. If there was feeling they would feel safer in an all female carriage, then there is no harm whatsoever in looking at how something like that could be arranged. Until such time as there is as near guaranteed safety and security for all on all forms of transport, not just trains. In this tense age, all public transport should be fitted with the tightest and reliable security for terrorism anyway,if that was done no one could even then get away with sexually harassing or assaulting anyone on any public transport. At least Jeremy Corbyn has listened, maybe this is far from being the best idea at present but at least he has given thought to the problem and warrants credit for that. It is time this govt after 5 years in power and endless threats as to terrorism and other attacks.made sure all public transport was totally safe and reliable to use, rather that just talk endlessly about issues and do absolutely nothing whatsoever of any note to deal with same. Most people likely do not come across such attacks or harassment, maybe they are not people travelling very late at night either. However, if enough people are worried about it to have raised it as an issue, for goodness sake let us give credit to anyone who at least has listened and is toying with ideas to deal with it. Rather than use the opportunity just to get at Jeremy Corbyn, because he appears to be someone with radical,if not old, ideas who is now striking a strong chord with the average people and voters in the UK. While admiring those already in power who allow such attacks to take place and it seems increase too while doing not a thing at all, not even listening likely to the people who have complained at harassment and raised the issue too. |

If it appears a popular avenue to pursue, how long do you think it will take the conservatives to jump on it ;) As to Jeremy Corbyn, he will have to demonstrate a more rounded political stance before i part with 3 quid to give him a vote  |
