There is no actual cost to the state to give a student a free pass because public transport would be running anyway.

Yes, students should get a pass for public transport.

In which case, it should be funded and supported then. :)

That has to be paid back and is taken into account say for instance the person applies for a mortgage...

my last statement was tongue in cheek.

I was relatively lucky during my education. Through 3 degress I got fees paid and in 2 cases a substantial government grant and fees (as it was something the government were pushing at the time)

If I had my way students would still receive grants, but that's not the way life is now, and to be consistent, if loans are used for other maintenance during that educational period, then transport costs would fall in to that category.

Most bus companies in my area do a student discount

Benjamin 20-09-2015 09:27 PM

In Bristol if you have a student card you get discount bus fares

For college I have the 16+ zip, I get free bus travel all around London, it's brilliant.

Ross. 20-09-2015 09:29 PM

I can drive but yes

Kizzy 20-09-2015 09:34 PM

I would, it would make them safer to be able to jump on a bus if they're skint.

I'm thirsty for a free metro pass

lostalex 22-09-2015 01:03 AM

it should be free for everyone considering the amount of advertising on buses and bus stops, it should pay for itself.

Tom4784 22-09-2015 12:29 PM

It's a nice thought but not a realistic one. I think most colleges tend to offer Bus passes for students aged 16-18 though, I know most of the major ones around here tend to do that.

Josy 22-09-2015 08:47 PM

No, students get a discount and that's enough they are fit enough to walk or cycle within reason whereas
a majority of OAPs have health and/or mobilty problems
