Obviously both things are offensive though

Anyone who stops any woman going anywhere because of the way she looks should expect to have his nipples twisted till he squeals. I'm making this law when I take over the country...

I don't doubt that. It's just that it's been going on for years! I remember my cousin weeping into my mother's lap because she couldn't get into a club in the West End. Was it because she was Jewish? No... it was because she was a female and apparently not 'hot' enough. I don't see this as an insult to black women, I see it as an insult to women in general, it's not any worse because they're black.

This goes beyond even gender. As I say, men face it too. You're more likely to get into a top club as a woman than you are as a man. It's just all kinds of ****ty.

Indeed. It's certainly something that needs looking at imo. You have all these cases of hotels being taken to court for refusing gay couples and bakeries etc etc (which is right imo) and I'm sure if they refused people because of their gender or colour it would be the same but Nightclubs seem to be untouchable in this regard. I wonder why that is?

I suppose... I didn't even look at it like that because of the topic of the story.

Why would anyone want to go to a place like that and spend their hard-earned cash?

Not disagreeing, but do they all have evidence in writing of discrimination to back up their claim, how this could not be a news story is more to the point..

For a story with back up, there are a lot of "she claimed" and "allegedly"s in there.

I might google and find it for you if I can be arsed, it was shown on the London news last night, I find it quite hilarious that you think I'm making it up

No, I don't think you're making it up! I just haven't seen it for myself. I would be interested to see.

They're attractive girls (imo) and not fat, so wth, no-one should be turned away for the way they look, that is just ridiculous

armand.kay 03-10-2015 07:24 PM

I will never understand why the black community continue to have this mentality that the darker you are the uglier.

armand.kay 03-10-2015 07:27 PM

"if they're dark they need to be extra pretty" disgusting tbh.

The bars in the Village inManchester regularly turn straight people away, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.

I'm calling 'reverse homophobia'
Imagine if bouncers turned away someone for being gay. There would be an uproar!

Brother Leon 04-10-2015 01:59 AM

Me and my mates have been turned away several times due to "security reasons" aka, you are a group of ethnic guys, sorry. Pretty ****ed up to be deemed fat and unable to go in though..

I wouldn't worry about it Ammi.(EDIT! I mean LIV - God knows why I put Ammi? ) From my posts on Benefit Cheats to Radical Immigrants, I have been mocked and accused of being a liar, despite such posts being my own direct experience.

:joker: Have you been on the sauce Kirk?

lostalex 04-10-2015 09:08 AM

If it were 4 white women that were just as ugly and fat and wearing the same clothes i think they would have been turned away too.

I don't think this racist.

Very common depending on where you are. I used to live in Manchester and I'd see it every weekend, people getting turned away from some bars on canal street for being straight. It really bothered me but a lot of the gay guys would say it was a good thing because straight people shouldn't be there. I even worked at one of the bars briefly and the manager would always say he hated it when straight people came in and would be really snarky when serving them.

I understand what you are saying...

the same is true of bars that have regulars and prefer older demographic. If a bunch of young people dressed sexy showed up in their bar, they would be looked at strangely and treated like crap too.

Bars and clubs tend to have a "culture" in them. and if someone upsets that or tries to change it then they react. Just like gentrification....

jackc1806 04-10-2015 09:41 AM

if they didn't get a ticket online the club doesn't have to let them in, obviously the alleged racism is pretty disgusting though.
