can we stop pretending like this isn't happening all over the muslim world. this is not a Saudi problem, this is a Muslim problem.

MUSLIM, the M word, put it in your mouth and chew on it a bit, get used to it, and get used to saying it when we are taking about problems in the arab world...

seriously people, wake up.

Lots of husbands, brothers and fathers won't want their women to vote and simply won't escort them which means only the more liberal families will use the female vote.

They have only provided a certain amount of polling stations where women can vote which means many will have to travel great distances to get there.

I don't agree that these women choose this culture and actually I don't believe a lot of the men choose this oppression for their women either. Saudi law is dictated by religion right down to the last detail and men (there have been many) who have tried to speak out against female oppression, risk either being murdered or imprisoned.

When a woman's destiny is dependent on the man’s goodness and generosity we have to accept that many of these women are nothing more than slaves.

Yes DR
its a very slow moving position.

Saudi bashing is very in vogue right now but the WEF actually ranks them above Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and quite a few others for gender equality. We can't expect the whole world to be modelled on Western terms and on what we consider is right/wrong. This vote shows that most of the time it is countries who change themselves rather than having that forced upon them

And I would accept if the thought of a woman proposing to a man didn't horrify me, this would never happen in Saudi

And more over... why do we expect sweeping changes over night that will bring them inline with western culture??? In my country... only women who were land owners were given the vote initially... and then many years after women were given the vote, aboriginals were, It's an evolution towards equality... that frankly still isn't 100% equality as it stands now anyways.

If i said a womans place is at the kitchen sink i would quite rightly be dragged over hot coals in here. This lot are not pro women at all. They are literally cave men still clubbing women over the head and dragging them back to their cave.

Dangerous game letting women vote.I mean look what happened in this country......

We got Thatcher!

Best keep the women to fill their very important role in the home.
Plus if you think it takes women over here a long time to get ready.....Imagine having to put one of those burkha things on?It would take an age.Very impractical for the men who have to drive these women.
No i think Saudi should learn from our mistakes and leave the voting for the men
