I believe praying only works if you don't tell people you're doing it, like when you blow candles out on a birthday cake, if you let it slip it won't come true.
Platitudes via social media...yeah, that means loads, Anglicans shmanglicans :/

You do know that tweet wasn't a prayer in and of itself? :smug:

The best wishes were meant for Dawkins and his close ones. Not really going to reach them if they don't put it out there.

The church offers a sympathetic approach to a man who has always been nothing but nasty and hateful towards them, and they are the bad ones?? There's a lot wrong in the churches right now (and other religious places for that matter), but this is certainly not included in that.

Any excuse to bash religious people..

I can look in the mirror but that won't necessarily disprove the existence of God.

I see nothing wrong with it at all. It wasn't as if they were forcing the guy into arttending a church service. The idiots who moan about this and call prayer disrespectful have too much time on their hands and not enough to occupy what little brain they have,.

..I'm not sure I get an analogy there, the tweet seemed to be a wishing well of, of Dawkins with his stroke but you wouldn't give any well wishes to someone who is dead..I guess you could say..(not you specifically..)...does the CoE do that with everyone, like did they do it with Michael Schumacher for instance, would be a better likening to, for me..?..well obviously we don't know for sure/they may have done but with Dawkins specifically...I personally would say, if it has only been him as a 'singling out', if you like...then it would be more of a well wish/gesture of a completely opposing view to religion, as a putting aside and perspective etc../whatever our beliefs, we are all as one...I guess an analogy I would use there as well would be with things that touch our lives personally/very sad things that have happened to forum members and whether 'friends' or 'enemies' as in completely opposing thoughts and those old ding dongs on the forum, it's all put aside when something awful happens...'we don't agree/we completely disagree but that's not a personal thing and I wish you well'....

..yeah we could analyse/scrutinise/look for 'intent' etc, in the tweet, we can do that...but if we do that, then there's no point in moaning about a rubbish/negative world that we live in because we're just being a part of that negativity/cynicism...or we can just look at it as a positive and well meaning gesture/nothing more, nothing less....

kirklancaster 16-02-2016 06:39 AM

He is a non-believer and is ill. Therefore he has no one to pray to. So what is so wrong with people of a charitable and caring disposition - who believe in 'Love Thine Enemy' praying ON HIS BEHALF to a God who they believe in and he does not?

Perhaps Dorkins needs a little help if his prayers to Darwin and 'Science' ain't working.

I regularly include L.T. in my prayers.:hehe:

it will prove he takes the occasional holiday, at the very least.

Crimson Dynamo 16-02-2016 06:41 PM

i am pretty sure Dawkins recovery is due 100% to science rather than muttering under your breath

:hee:

Going to have to call that out. In my experience that hasn't happened.
Won't divulge on here and risk derailing the thread but I'll explain if you like via PM.
Is cynicism negative, always? I don't feel it is. The best the CofE get from me is the benefit of the doubt.
