The government doesn't care about younger people

(A bit lengthy but)

A day that I never expected or wanted to see. It's honestly such a shame that the BBC Trust gave them permission to go ahead with the closure - there are so many flaws with the plans. The Daily Drop is absolutely dire and is essentially the BBC's take on Buzzfeed (only much worse - most of the articles on there I've sat and thought "someone was actually paid to write this"), which'll probably end up getting shut down or merged into Newsbeat by the end of the year (seeing as that's where most of the content is coming from atm). They also haven't done a good enough job of explaining the move - it's not just a case of shutting off the TV stream and broadcasting online - it'll essentially be BBC Netflix but with only 2 hours worth of new programming a week (no stream, no schedule). Not to mention the fact that the money saved will be put back into BBC One anyway.

BBC Three is also capable of making great programming - look at the success of classics like Little Britain, The Mighty Boosh, Don't Tell The Bride etc, but also newer hits like Professor Green: Suicide and Me, Murder in Successvile, The Revolution Will Be Televised etc. I highly doubt that they'll be able to find and nurture talent like those who featured in the above shows on a solely online platform - the exposure just isn't there.

Viewers will also miss out on the great live music coverage - such as Glastonbury, Radio 1's Big Weekend, Reading & Leeds etc. They'll be gone from the television screens.

It's just such a ridiculous decision to do this - most people don't have a stable internet connection (myself included) and will miss out as a result of this. They'd have been better off shutting down BBC Four and merging it into BBC Two - they both show very similar programming/have a very similar audience and up until recently even shared a controller.

(Also, rumour has it the BBC are going to merge Three and Radio 1 together at some point anyway, so that's just another thing to add to the list of why this exercise is pointless).

TLDR: I'm against the move

Just saw 60 Seconds and it is their last night tonight.

They even did this on the end board:

I didn't change the color.

Someone even said about these flying microwaves! Future of news? I dunno.

The last ever 60 Seconds just wrapped up with some shout outs to the crew.

zakman440 15-02-2016 11:12 PM

Not quite yet - still a few hours to go.

They could of easily made amends by making CBBC air up until 7pm on BBC3 and CBeebies on BBC4... They don't know what the **** they're doing

Scrapping BBC3 is a stupid choice, but it's the result of the government cutting it's budget in the name of austerity yet again lol. This is one of many consequences of when people elect conservative governments. But yeah anyway, blame the government's cuts instead of the BBC. This wasn't their preferred choice.

That's it! BBC Three is no longer a TV channel - RIP :(

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 16-02-2016 03:12 AM

Im pleased the 2 programmes I wanted to see the most are on BBC1 next week

zakman440 17-02-2016 12:15 AM

So technically the channel isn't entirely dead yet - for either iPlayer requirements with the BBC Trust or to keep the channel on Sky (it's unclear which as of yet), BBC Three has scheduled back-to-back episodes of classic shows to fill in the air time (the rest of it is taken up by a loop commercial for the online service). The known schedule is as follows:

Quote:

Wednesday 17th February

2:00am Some Girls
2:30am Some Girls
3:00am Some Girls
3:30am Some Girls

Thursday 18th February

2:00am Some Girls
2:30am Josh
3:00am Josh
3:30am Josh

Friday 19th February

2:00am Josh
2:30am Josh
3:00am Uncle
3:30am Uncle

Saturday 20th February

2:00am Russell Howard
2:30am Uncle
3:00am Uncle
3:30am Uncle

Sunday 21st February

2:00am Don't Tell The Bride
3:00am Don't Tell The Bride

Monday 22nd February

2:00am Russell Howard
2:30am Russell Howard
3:00am Don't Tell The Bride

The line is drawn there for now. Set your PVRs etc. Be interesting to see if these have all the BBC Three idents, announcers and bells and whistles or of they're simply going to be programmes.

http://feelinglistless.blogspot.co.u...g-sort-of.html
Tonight it's a mini-marathon of Gavin and Stacey - they even went to the effort of playing an ident beforehand and using a continuity announcer to introduce the programme.
