The version I use to play with was the Vector Linux. It comes on a single CD and it seems to install on most machine I have tried on. It comes complete with office packages which makes it ideal if you want a good linux system for home and office use.

Oh and I forgot to mention it installs about 5 to 10 times faster than Windows XP and it really costs infinitely less to buy because it is free.

im guessing it is "open office" that it comes with, which is a complete office suite that is even available for microsoft pc's. anybody who buys microsoft offie is being conned. same goes for people who pay for paint shop pro ("the gimp" software package is free and does everything psp does, it also has a version that can be used on microsoft machines), in fact if anyone wants to get a feel for linux software without giving up on microsoft should check this out.....

........and learn what the "open source" movement is all about.

Spot on it comes with both Gimp and Openoffice.

For any other Apple Mac users out there you can get both these free packages for OS X.

I use it for making MP3 sound recordings from number of different audo sources now and again. It very good, simple to use and powerful.

Good bit of software.

But there is so much good stuff out there if you take time to go out looking for it. The problem is avoiding all the shareware stuff and finding only the freeware.

Thats why i like booting into ubuntu rather than windows, i know that everything is free and there are no viruses or spyware. i cant believe people are so narrow minded that they think windows is the only choice, they are gullible enough to pay 80 pounds for xp that limits them to only install it onto one machine and then the software is flawed anyway because there is an update for it every month or so......

I just think its my moral duty to tell people there are other options out there than microsoft seeing as Vista is out now and Mr Gates is still being greedy.
