I agree with Chewy and Marc. Itīs almost feels like a 10 minutes comedy parody sketch made for Saturday Night or MadTV that has been stretched to 2 hours or so.

Also Melissa McCarthy in the casting isnīt helping at all.

Kyle 05-03-2016 09:03 PM

Absolutely tragic.

user104658 05-03-2016 10:22 PM

Err... I have no problem at all with the ghostbusters being women... however... the film looks pretty awful... let's be honest. I sort of have a feeling that it's going to do better than it should BECAUSE it's women, like a sort of "girl power" vibe where you're not allowed to say that it's **** because then you're sexist. Even if it's legitimately ****.

Amy Jade 05-03-2016 10:24 PM

I'm open minded about it, I absolutely love Ghostbusters (the 2nd movie is my favourite) and I think it looks pretty funny from that teaser.

I never really understand people bitching about remakes or reimaginings either, this coming out won't change the older movies being good...if anything it could get the older movies more attention really.

Because some of these movies being remade are classics (IMO), well thought out stories and ideas that are then taken and butchered with the over use of massive budgets and too much cgi, yeah there may be one or two good remakes but most of the time they are completely diabolical (Charlie and The Chocolate Factory anyone?). The original movies are getting pushed into obscurity and future generations wont even know they exist.

Making sequels rather than remakes would be better imo and at least show some creativity.

billy123 07-03-2016 07:37 AM

Im not going to judge it on a trailer.

I think the new Ghostbusters film is a sequel though, rather than a remake?

I watched the original Ghostbusters trailer and it was on a similar par to the current one (worse actually in some ways. The new one is getting criticised for the racial stereotyping of the black character. In the original trailer, the black ghostbuster wasn't even credited!) But yeah I agree basically, it's impossible to tell from that trailer whether or not it will be good.

I cant even fathom how people are judging it from a 2 min promo clip it makes no sense to me. Although there is one thing that does bug me a bit.
This is supposed to be a reboot I.E. a fresh start like the original movie never happened but the trailer starts with:

"30 years ago 4 scientists saved new york this summer a new team will answer the call"

They just acknowledged the original movie exists in the first 5 seconds! that annoys me a bit but still im not going to judge it until i have seen it.

I dont usually even do trailers and usually steer well clear of reviews and imdb until i have seen a movie (because there is always negativity deserved or not) but i am really looking forward to this.

Josy 07-03-2016 11:38 AM

I must be completely different then because I know by a trailer whether it's my type of movie or not, I'm not saying you can tell what the entire movie will be like but it does give you a general feel of it and with this one in particular you find put straight away that it's apparently a sequel to the original movies yet it looks like the exact storyline from the first ghostbusters apart from this time it's females, I'll still watch this due to loving the original ones.

I feel like it's both a sequel and a semi-reboot. It takes place in the same world, and the original Ghostbusters did exist, but other than maybe a vague mention of them inventing / building the proton packs etc. I doubt the old films will be referred to much at all (other than as easter-eggs).

Jamie89 03-05-2016 05:02 PM

"Ghostbusters trailer 'most disliked' on YouTube"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36191146

:worry:

I don't know why they haven't released a new trailer when the current one is clearly so unpopular.

Tom4784 03-05-2016 05:10 PM

They showed a different trailer when I went to see Batman vs Superman which I thought was better.

TBH though, the trailer was always going to get a vitriolic response due to the fact that it's a reboot focused on women. Meninists can't handle it when men aren't presented as the center of the universe.

See I'm npot sure that's fair since it does look legitimately... not very good. It's too easy a defence to be able to jump to - "you're just saying it's bad because it's women!!" - it sort of takes away anyone's ability to say "Actually it's just sh*te."

I think it's probably a combination of both. It's not a good trailer, but there are also a lot of comments on YT which are out and out sexist (not to mention a lot of sexist comments being made about the film before the trailer was even released). So even though I can see why a lot of people genuinely think it's a bad trailer, I don't think it's so bad that it deserves such an overwhelmingly negative reception, like the one it's received, so there must be more to it than just that.

A tad overdramatic.
Of course future generations will know they exist. Just like current generations have the ability to watch movies from almost 100 years ago.

In the case of things like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that was a different adaptation of the source material, not a remake of the 1970s film.

Jamie89 19-05-2016 12:10 PM

Second trailer released:

I don't know. I think it's better than the first trailer but I'm worried the movie is going to be really cheesy. (This one is also getting a massive amount of dislikes on YT.)

Amy Jade 19-05-2016 12:15 PM

It sort of looks like a kids movie, like the Scooby Doo movies

Scarlett. 10-07-2016 07:55 PM

Apparently its a pretty average film. Not too bad, but not amazingly good either. Looks like it was just a case of bad trailers.

Ghostbusters has received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has a rating of 73%, based on 37 reviews, with an average rating of 6.8/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Ghostbusters does an impressive job of standing on its own as a freewheeling, marvelously cast supernatural comedy -- even if it can't help but pale somewhat in comparison with the classic original."[36] On Metacritic the film has a score of 62 out of 100, based on 17 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".
