Two sponsors have now withdrawn, what happened to innocent until proven guilty, given its a substance that has just recently been put on the banned list and if she can prove medically she has taken it for years for a medical condition there has to be some leeway surely :suspect:

and i'm a 110% Halepeno fan, that's how her fanclub is called :) but i have respect for Serena Williams :) |

Why has this been derailed as a race debate?
I can see both sides of this, if she has been using the drug for a heart issue for years then I think all the sponsors dropping her is baffling but then again she should have known from the January date the drug had been made illegal and found a replacement. I feel sorry for her but can't escape the fact it's sort of her own doing. She's still an amazing athlete though nobody can deny that. |

^ she sounds bitter. It's not cheating until it's prohibited and she never took it whilst knowing it wasn't allowed.

The drug is for treating angina and heart problems, but also boosts performance and aids recovery, it's not looking good for her, no wonder the sponsors are running for the hills

I do think though that this scandal is going to really shed a light on these more 'ambiguous' performance enhancers not just in tennis but the wider sporting industry as well, personally I could see a lot more similar situations coming out in the future. As for Maria her penalty is going to depend IMO on how the ITF determine the penalty. If they go by the letter of the law and treat it as an illegal substance usage for 28 days I could see potentially 6 to 12 months. If they go hard and treat it as a 10 year usage she'll get the four. |
|
People are too quick to label someone a cheat, sometimes things happen and they are honest mistakes. It's being blown out of proportion anyway, It's something she's been taking for 10 years and has only just become banned. I was speaking to someone at work and she said it could be the reason Maria can actually play tennis, without it theres the risk of having no energy to play and fainting regularly
|
This was clearly stated as a performing enhancing drug, they found a convenient way to cheat for so long before it was banned.
And she and team were advised on 22/12 that this drug would be in the banned list, it's pretty suspicious that a top athlete wouldn't be on top of updates. She said she constantly kept herself informed but this time conveniently forgot to keep up.:fist: |
Why on earth would someone that needed a drug for heart complaints take up professional tennis..?
Why on earth would someone earning the amount of money she earns with a team of many around her not know this had been banned? Cheat been busted. |

...with her being Maria Sharapova and all, I wonder what will happen now, I'm guessing that she won't get the same ban etc that some may have got...

Djokovic supports Maria. Of course he does. I'm waiting for him to get caught too. I've always found his rise to the top sketchy. This dude couldn't even finish a match before without breathing problems then all of a sudden he claims not eating gluten anymore gave him superpowers. Nonsense.
Meanwhile, bae Nadal is saying Maria must pay and he has to yet again defend himself against doping allegations. Uh ever since he came on the scene they have been accusing him of doping. They just couldn't stand that this boy from a Spanish village was whooping Roger's ass at every match, Roger, the one they much preferred to be the face of Tennis. Well Nadal has always been a beast, in 2003 at 16 he whooped Roddicks ass at Davis cup and announced his arrival to the world and at that point Roddick was still a big deal. In short, leave my baby Rafa alone :bawling: unless you can actually prove it shut your traps :bawling: |
