It happened today when someone stole two baguettes from Greggs. It's next to my work and I'm a regular so I told them behind the counter quietly to check the CCTV.

After telling them I feel extremely conflicted with my decision. Would you have said something?

You bubbled for 2 baguettes - shame on you

It really would depend on what they stole. Many years ago I worked in a shop and an old man (obviously not well off, frayed clothes etc) stole a bar of soap. I saw him do it, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything.
If i saw someone stealing clothes etcm, then I would say something, because even people with little money can buy cheap clothes from charity shops.

Clothes are not cheap in charity shops these days !

He clearly wasn't a homeless person who was starving. He was just an idiot who couldn't be bothered to wait in a queue. He stood in the queue for at least 5 minutes before deciding "**** it". Okay it may have been a hasty decision but I wouldn't have said anything if they were clearly homeless and starving. Please don't criticise me when I've came on here for other people's experiences.

And if said thief was later to break into your house and steal your belonging because they're desperate you would have the same empathy? http://cdn.thisisbigbrother.com/cust...ar5970_177.gif

yes because thieves start small, better to stop them sooner than later

I didn't ask in the poll if I'm a good person or not

Ok no need to go on the attack -i'm just thinking there may have been another reason behind the theft and i would have got on with my own business- no reflection on you at all

You're presuming to know a hell of a lot about a lot of people you don't know.

I don't and you don't know either way ,so either way the buns are gone and its a crime.

Firewire 30-03-2016 07:40 PM

It was baguettes actually, much bigger than buns

He was obviously wearing trousers - baguettes are well hard to hide in a skirt

^ Yep. People think that if its from a big chain nobody cares and its just 'sticking it to the man' but then the people working in that chain at store level are just the same as those working in a local shop, they're not the CEOs who aren't affected by a few quid going missing. I sympathise with people who feel the need to steal but I would still report it. And the vast majority of shoplifting is by people who want to profit from selling it on or of things they don't need but don't want to pay for, its not of necessity

Depends, a few months back I saw a homeless guy steal a sandwich from greggs, and I felt sorry for him and it was only a sandwich so idc
