IT 1990 - 15
just weird...really weird. |
where the wild things are - PG
http://cinemovie.tv/cinemovie/images...vie-poster.jpg I just watched it in HD, It was brilliant. I thought it would be just a fun kids film but it felt like a kids film for adults :) There was some controversy about how scary it would be for kids but nothing in this film was as scary as the witch in snow white. The soundtrack is great too. I'm surprized at how much I liked it. |

Very funny film. I think it's under-rated and should be seen if people get the chance to see it. |
Have we a topic like this yet? If not let's keep this going. Could be a nice idea. I have a backlog of about 27 movies to watch that I downloaded so I will post reviews if I can.
Let's here it for plugging your laptop/desktop into HDTV's with a VGA cable . Movie gold. |
I never understood why this thread has so few replies. I'll do more soon :)

Waltz With Bashir
As a relative newcomer to the history of Israeli-Arab conflicts in the 1980s I found the subject material of the movie a little hazy; an environment still hostile today gave me preconceptions about the region, and few were changed by this movie. Though there is a degree of uncertainty and bias about the film, portraying the Israelis in a rather positive light (a move which, along with the negative portrayal of the Lebanese / Palestinians, led to it being banned in the majority of arab-speaking countries). However, moving on from the subject material it's a very interesting piece indeed. Employing fascinating aesthetics through its cartoon style helps to fantasise elements of war whilst simultaneously rubbing your face in its grim sides - with cartoon pornography, extreme violence and gore to live up to its 18 certificate. The animation is top-notch. Strongest however is the method Waltz With Bashir conveys its artistry - its main character is taken through an amnesiac recollection that strikes chord with the horrors of war and veterans' desire to forget the atrocities they've seen. A series of psychiatrist evaluations and interviews help to paint a vivid picture, this factual approach really powering home the reality of the conflict. I definitely recommend watching the movie. It's probably one of the best foreign movies from the 2000s. 8/10 |
The Wolfman. You know, it mustn't be much fun when you're the runt of the litter. Left to wander around the moors in the dark while your older brothers - Dracula and Frankenstein's monster - get to have all the exciting storylines, leaving you with nothing to do but scratch yourself and do away with the odd straggler. Anyway, in trying to reimagine the old myth, the filmmakers have introduced new twists and turns, but as a result we're left with something struggling with an identity crisis as such. Is it supposed to be an eerie gothic scarefest? A Sam Raimi inspired goreathon? A tragic story on love, both platonic and romantic? A silly Hammer production? Well, that's the problem with this film: it has no idea what it is and, God love him, neither does a woefully miscast Del Toro.
It's troubled production did nothing to inspire me and I watched it with hardly any expections. As a result, I found myself giggling away at the stupidity on display. I mean, it's one of those films that's so bad it's good, you know? With it's sumptious art direction, hilariously over-the-top action scenes, ridiculous dialogue and another role for Hopkins to ham it up in (he must have known it was a turkey in the making, or maybe he just didn't give two f$cks either way?) what we have here is a hybrid of a film that has no idea what it is or, more importantly, where it's going and what it has to say. As such, I just treated it as the film it is: absolutely ridiculous fun. |
