I find it hard to smile after just being insulted by people as would most.

Complain about her imo. Think of the elderly customers who have bend down and get their change.

They're always blocking the doorway getting their daft trolly things down the step.
They need to be shoved away. :oh:

If you want to complain about something, complain about the people treating the workers like ****, rather than complaining about the workers reacting to being treated like **** imo.

Do I deserve to be told 'wait til you finish work' by a 40 odd year old man because he forgot to click the button for cash back?

Omg the number of slanging matches the woman I work with has with customers it's actually like watching Eastenders. She gives them loads of abuse back. :omgno:

I work with a lady like that, she's in her 60's and she only works about 3 hours a day on the fast checkouts but I cackle working with her she, she's so nice and happy but if people give her **** she deletes their shopping and tells them to move to another till because she won't serve them

I wish more customers would confront the nasty ones, I'v had customers stick up for me before and it really gives you a boost and makes you thankful for the good ones.

I know its not their place of course but it's always welcome

I didn't say people deserve it because no one because it does annoy me as well when customers are rude towards an assistant over nothing/or nothing and of course it shouldn't be with the job I actually wish people were nicer when going in a shop but unfortunately it does come with the job which is out of peoples control. It happens to every assistant everyday, I was accused of being a racist because I wouldn't serve them because they pushed in and told them where the line is in a professional manner

If you've had a **** day or are feeling down then you aren't putting on a fake smile. I used to be great at smiling and laughing through whatever, while I'm feeling dead inside, but eventually you just got fed up of it. I'm the other way around. If I see a worker who looks abit down, I will try go out my way to make them laugh with a small comment. I know Small stuff like that can make you feel 10x better.

I've seen many customers stick up for workers who are being abused by other customers, the relief on their faces when they realise someone is on their side is both great but sad because you know they'd have been dealing with that behaviour all day.

That's the best way to deal with it, not adding more pressure on top of them than they've already got.

Yeah I agree, its not the most demanding thing in the world to be friendly and polite to someone. And maybe I'm just lucky but in a year of working in retail I'd say the number of customers who are complete assholes is tiny and that the vast majority of people are at least decent.

Mystic Mock 22-08-2016 07:54 PM

I've only ever seen a retail worker get abused once in my life (very lucky I know) and as I'm quite awkward and a wimp I didn't defend her, but me and my Mom did try to have a chat with her afterwards about small stuff such as TV Shows, Movies, Music etc.
