Tbh, I'd rather we got rid of the post counts. I don't feel the need to see the number. :worry:

But when it comes to games, do the mods have the ability to make individual threads count?
In which case when there's a new game they can allow that specific thread to contribute to post counts.

If you start discounting certain posts, then it isn't really a 'post count' is it? All the figures are entirely inaccurate, and that to me just makes the whole thing silly and pointless

I hope this thread does not ruin Josy's weekend?

she is going away you know

:worry:

All this sounds over complicated.

Just make every post you make count or keep it as it is. Making random threads count is silly.

You couldn't have them for games which are basically either just like chat threads or tasks that require you to spam etc

Jessica. 01-09-2016 01:31 PM

Wth just make them count, the whole point of having a post count is it showing how many posts you've made :umm2:

This is exactly what I meant

I mean I do understand why you may not want 'spammy' posts to count, but the point still stands - it isn't a post count unless all of the posts you've made count towards the total.

I have never got the 'it encourages people to spam!' argument though. Does anyone really do that? Does anyone really care that much? And if they do, spamming is against the rules anyway so just infract and/or ban them? That seems a lot easier that discounting entire subforums which essentially renders the 'post count' pointless

Jessica. 01-09-2016 01:33 PM

Removing it is better than having an inaccurate count

Crimson Dynamo 01-09-2016 01:33 PM

tbh some of my funny posts should count double

I agree completely with this :clap1:

Jessica. 01-09-2016 01:37 PM

But this thread is just going to be ignored no matter how much we pour our hearts into it

This, I don't even see the point of post count even being a feature tbh. Removing it would solve all the problems of "oh this section should count but this other section shouldn't" etc. And it would be less intimidating for new members.

I agree.

But in answer to OP, I Dont think it would encourage people to use the forum more

I'm happy with how the post count works. It's not like many of the posts within Chat and Games contribute much to the forum, and that's not meant in a negative way.

I disagree. Taking them completely away will just make the forum look like there's another common feature absent from this one that's available on basically any other forum

So? It doesn't actually do anything.

If they were removing an image posting feature or something that actually makes a difference to the forum then that would be an issue but a post count doesn't do anything.

It just makes it look inferior which in turn makes people not want to stay here

If someone wants to leave the forum because they have a problem over a post count feature then maybe we don't want that person here in the first place. :nono:

Who has left, or is considering leaving because (mostly) spam posts do not count towards their total? :suspect:

Well you'd be surprised at the amount of times I've seen "20K posts? Get a life." or something along those lines in the year that I've been here.
