To be fair to him the St Andrews social scene is genuinely **** / non-existent. I was just over the river at Dundee and we went over for an... Err... "night out" once. It's like two pubs and a co-op. It makes Dundee nightlife look vibrant. And that's really saying something... As Dundee is probably best described as five good bars, a hundred rough pubs, two or three dodgy nightclubs and the Uni Union.

Go to the library and study, that is what you are there for, its not a social club

Well a huge part of uni is supposed to be social. And, no I'm not talking about the partying aspect. But the whole point of university is learning with others and meeting, mixing with new people.

Um I made the best choice eva deciding to study in the vibrant Newcastle! The city makes a MASSIVE impact upon your studies.

I should actually probably add... My first jaunt to Uni was Glasgow Uni and I didn't actually like it much :joker:. Sort of stuffy learning environment and a fairly pretentious social scene at Glasgow Uni itself. Though you obviously have a huge extended social scene to choose from.

Even I say this, and I'm almost done. "Uni life" is highly overrated. I barely do anything different to what I did at home, I just live alone and do my own thing. There's a huge stereotype for the typical "student" I think.

I had no friends at uni  but I got first class honours so **** friends :dance2:

They served me well thru the dark days

And mostly through middle age

this thread shows i didn't enjoy first semester thaat much and was v ill with glandular fever, yet second semester was waaaay better - so much more fun and made so many great friends.

i just have a problem that i feel like i'm missing out. i go to st andrews, and there's two things bugging me there: it's too small, and the gay scene is ****. i just don't look forward to going back there that much for 2nd year as it's pretty similar to the place i'm from and i just miss the city so much (i spent my school years in edinburgh). also, a lot of friends from where i live are headed to glasgow, and i honestly just worry, as good a time i had in first year, that i'm totally missing out on the university life i imagined: being in a vibrant cosmopolitan city, and having access to a sea, as opposed to a pond, of gay guys.

i am honestly considering applying to glasgow - the **** thing is they don't do transfers, so i'd need to start from year 1 with people two years younger than me. i just don't know if it's worth it, but i'm thinking of just applying anyway, and seeing how second year at st andrews goes

Didn't you check out St. Andrews before accepting? Also forgive me for saying it, but you seem far more interested in the social side of uni, rather than anything else.

I wanna go to uni to be a slag

Braden 10-08-2017 10:30 AM

Maybe, go to a nearby city to experience a better gay scene. Don't feel like you need to change university purely for that reason, it's not worth it. You should prioritise your education.
