This is not what was on Ch4HD News (14/1/17)
Wood Homes are Expensive, Over Priced infact
Quality of Course

The New 3 Storey Black PreFabs
are Good value

DemolitionRed 16-01-2017 07:31 AM

What you are not considering is the land where these homes are to be built is what pushes pricec up considerably (especially in London) You either have to buy land with planning permission or you have to pitch your house on someone else’s land and pay a monthly pitch fee.

Have you got a link with a ready built three storey prefab for £150k ?

Kizzy 16-01-2017 11:30 AM

Well I was thinking about that, you're right it's not really the cost of building or labour these days it't the land. when you see programmes where people buy a home with acres and acres attached I think what a greedy bast, someone else could have had a lovely home there!
It concentrates housing to smaller areas and restricts business being encouraged in those areas.

Friends of ours recently bought a house for just under £360k (and again this is in Scotland where land is quite a bit cheaper) and I swear they must simply be paying for the land. It's a nice enough house... unique, detatched, etc. BUT it's not that big. 3 large bedrooms, 4 if you converted the dining room, decent lounge and kitchen but that's it . I'd say the house itself is worth about £200k. But the garden is HUGE... it has its own little forested area, all designed so it "feels rural" (you can't see any other buildings, even though there are other houses quite close to it). But it's a hell of a lot to pay for that. Especially as the land isn't really suitable for building on without extensive work (it's on a fairly steep slope). There's easily room for another house + garden there, maybe even two :umm2:.

DemolitionRed 16-01-2017 12:44 PM

Building plots are normally sold on at half the eventual value of the finished house, so if your house is going to be worth 500k the plot you are building it on will cost around 250k

This doesn't include your electricity connection, your gas, water, mains drains and telecoms.

If the plot isn't on a road all the above will cost you a lot more and you will have the extra expense of putting down a connection between the road and your home.

Doubt it, we need space to put the house, thats the problem.

I believe the solution is a new wave of garden cities encroaching in on green belt.

How about knocking down some of the slums and eyesores to make way for these prefabs instead of encroaching on an already dwindling greenbelt.

What slums and eyesores do you mean where people already currently live?

Sorry mate but I've searched the internet for these homes and can't find them. If you quote off CH4HD, but can't back that quote up with any readable source, then I for one won't debate with you.

These are lovely, they are timber framed houses like you see on Grand Designs very popular in some parts of Europe I don't think the prefabs will look anything like this unfortunately or we would all want one

Kizzy on that Ch4HD news report
the best part of it,

renting one.
And her child
for the First Time Ever
had her own bedroom.......

Of Course DR
by the Water the Land cost's more.

The Same Modern Hi Tech Pre Fab
and fast build
and UK Jobs
ALL involved

The £150K
same homes
at another location
are still there to Buy
or if you are in a worse state of affairs
to Rent.

Which means so much more to a Mother,
who has a child who before that,
never had her own bedroom.....

arista 07-02-2017 06:07 AM

BBC1 AM before 7AM
Business Reporter was
at the Derbyshire factory
showing how the Kitchen is built into
that Base part 1st floor
High Quality New Prefabs are faster than
building - thats the point of this.

DR. this report will be on BBCnewsHD
all day.
And a link will be made
