That is easier said than done, Diablo.

If you have three forum members say nasty things about you and even defame your character, you may feel that the people doing this realy mean it.

I know it is not like watching something on TV whereby you can see it and hear it.

In the world of the net and the world of anonymity, we can only see the words and sentances and judge from there.

But like I said earlier, keep safe and keep clues about yourself personal and don't always assume that people are who they say they are.

Friendships can work out, from chat rooms & forums, but for every dream, there can be a nightmare.

I know what you mean, cos when I joined a wedding forum all the regs were nasty to the newbies.. if the posted a question in the wrong thread or whatever it was crime of the century..
They droned on and on and on about pointless threads and then one of them (a regular) started a thread called "Should I? and when you clicked to read it it said... eat a scone thats calling me from the kitchen!
I called that a pointless thread and got all the insults.. I just left the forum instead of arguing though..

Siouxsie 25-03-2007 11:56 PM

no i would never leave a forum i have had my fair share of insults but i dont give a damn

Mrluvaluva 25-03-2007 11:58 PM

some people have thicker skins than others

Diablo 25-03-2007 11:58 PM

I was only new there anyway.. I wouldn't leave a forum i liked.. but the insults started from the beginning.. I noticed it with all the newbies, so it wasn't really a forum i wanted to stick around in anyway.

Siouxsie 25-03-2007 11:59 PM

suppose so its the older you get the wiser you get:thumbs:

Mrluvaluva 26-03-2007 12:01 AM

I had an istance on here yesterday, someone UTU'd me for the first time and everything seemed okay, but, I learned today, by looking through threads carefully, that my judgement of that member is much different to what I had first thought.

It is a tricky one and like I said, it is better to assume the worst and be careful.

But, have a fantastic time in this digital world of the internet and make friends that you will never more than chat to over a computer screen.

Sometimes UTUing can lead to a more friendly approach, but look out for members who may be digging for more personal info. Looking for clues of who you really are.

It is easy to fall foul of this and I have heard on the news, how girls have got stalked or attacked by nutters who join a forum, usually just for that reason.

Also, many can pretend to be girls, when they are actually men.

I enjoy it too Diablo and when it is friendly, it is great.

I get UTU's and I have never deleted any ever. A great read actually and nice evidence too.

So many of us, that used to go to bed early, don't today!

Sometimes, our girlfriends or boyfriends will be asleep, while their partner is on the computer till three o'clock or something.

Go back to 1980 and just imagine how things were then.

We'd be in bed instead,:sleep:

I agree. u2u's can be so fascinating, and good evidence too, like you said.

Mrluvaluva 26-03-2007 12:18 AM

Anything posted on the internet can be good evidence.

That is right luvluva, if a situation does occur and somebody did give their anonymity out and trouble emerged from that situation, then naturally all evidence is importance.

UTU's are okay, inbox & outbox, I just looked now, for memorysake and it's very unrevealing to anyone.

But most problems which do occur in the world, are very few and far between and even though this topic is scaring some and warning some, it is just caution which is the main part.

The only time that anybody would act, if it was a criminal case and either violence or serious stalking or harassment of some kind or even some kind of identity theft.

But it is only a cautious situation and sometimes being slightly under-cautious can get good friends.
