Why does it say 'Released: 14 May 2017' on the Apple page? Surely it's not going to be another 3 months till it's actually released as a single?

Quality-music-wannabe makes no sense.

"Million Reasons" and "Perfect Illusion" were pseudo-rock/country songs - when coming from a woman who based her career on controversial, over-sexualized hardcore pop songs, appearence and persona, it lacks credibility.
She needs to stick to what she does best, and that's being THE Lady Gaga, not some weird excuse of "look at me, I'm deep and I can make serious songs without any gimmick".

Perfect Illusion is a pop song.

She's made serious songs for years. Million Reasons being far from the first. :umm2: Your critique makes zero sense.

Pop songs have had rock/country/jazz etc etc influences for years, including Gaga. This isn't the first.

Marsh. 08-02-2017 06:31 PM

I love Perfect Illusion but I almost choked laughing at it being described as "look at me, I'm deep and I can make serious songs".

Perfect Delusion doesn't deserve a mention in this thread! Cease!

Video looks like it was shot and edited in all of 3 days

And it doesn't differ much from Judas' music video

Using that logic it's the same as that Girls Aloud video because it has a motorbike.

Brown Eyes, Speechless, You & I, Dope etc are all far from "controversial, over-sexualised hardcore pop songs" but okay

Smithy 08-02-2017 06:49 PM

It's on VEVO now, updated the OP :D

Smithy 08-02-2017 06:50 PM

Also can we not with the Perfect Illusion dragging, that key change is literally the best thing to happen to music in 2016

it was more like "look at me, I'm a rock star, shaking my head back and forth". It was a joke.

Never heard of them. I guess there's a reason they weren't big hits like her early songs.

They are early songs.

Yeah, she's never shaken her hair back and forth and never made a pop song with rock influence.

y.winter 08-02-2017 07:20 PM

Well, I guess it's a sensitive subject here.
What I'm saying is that she's better with her old tricks that got her famous in first place.
There's a reason why on Super Bowl she only performed Million Reason from her last album and it was purely for promo - all the others were Lady Gaga classics from the time when she was relevant and her songs actually made an impact outside of her fanbase and will go down as her best iconic songs. Her latest releases are flops in comparison to what she was.

Yeah, she sang Million Reasons, the song the MOST different from her most famous songs so you're reasoning doesn't make much sense.

Three weren't released as singles, Speechless has been acclaimed as one of her best songs and You & I sold 2,310,000 digital downloads in the US

it makes sense. there's no point in dismissing other opinions with "doesn't make any sense" in multiple variations, Marsh.
As someone who doesn't actively listen to Lady Gaga songs, as well as many other people, the exposure/interest she gets has been in decline - and it says a lot.
Bring as many numbers of sales as you want, of course she'll sale millions because she's still lady gaga, but it still doesn't make up for the lack of interest she creates these days. No one talks about lady gaga these days as much as they did when she exploded on the radio and the internet with every music video and single she released.

I get what Winter's saying, she has changed artistically tbf. But I think she's always been credible as a musician and I don't think her current era is her trying to chase that. I actually think it's kind of the opposite, that when she started she was chasing 'fame' and did a lot of the things she did to get noticed, whereas now she's more able to just do what she wants. Because all those things she used to do, they were just layers on top of her artistic-ness (if that's a word). I think she's always had more to offer than the average pop star and that's clear even from The Fame Monster, but I just think it's a case of her getting older and adapting her music to how she feels now, which any musician probably does.

of course she has  musicians have to develop if not for fans, then for themselves

interest in her has dwindled, but I'd say that's more to do with how the music scene has changed in the past 8-10 years than anything else
