If you can say it would not bother you for sure, then fine. Some people can have polygamous relationships, and not bad an eyelid. Others become so jealous, it can ruin their lives. Each to their own. I suppose it depends on what you can handle. But I still say, you don't know if you can handle it until it happens.

lily. 03-04-2007 12:49 PM

I would not do it. I realised after I ticked the box in the other thread that I was speaking "hypothetically" and had I been completely honest, I wouldn't have ticked it.

Here's why.... I think that if it were my man having sex with another woman for us to get the money, then I would constantly be wondering if he were comparing me to her when we were on the job and wondering if he preferred her. I'm not an especially jealous person, and yet this is how it would make me feel.

My husband is a lot more jealous than I am, and therefore, I know that it would destroy him in much the same way as it did for David (the character in the film). It would destroy the trust and the bond we have built up over the last 14 years.

We are skint. And, we have a sh!tload of unpaid debt. The money would change our lives tremendously. But at what cost?

I can say "never" in this case because we were faced with an indecent offer a few years back from a couple we know, and although it didn't involve money, it did involve swinging. We didn't go for that, for much the same reason. I don't judge others who choose that lifestyle, but it's not for me.

Oh, and in response to some of the witty remarks on here... (you know who you are!)... I'd do Robert Redford for free! No packet of crisps required.

GiRTh 03-04-2007 02:40 PM

Whatever:rolleyes:

Remember I said the film was an awful film. The main reason for that was because he took it far worse that she did. it destroyed his life. What does that say? Is it that it's harder to be a pimp that a prostitute. I hate that film.

Also, the film only works because it's Redford what if the millionaire had been some fat obnoxious pig and the couple had been black or Latino. The film suddenly has a whole different feel.

I've been completely hard up and though Linda's stance is admirable. I'm not sure I believe it. I prefer the old immoral Linda to the new moral version.

Bells 03-04-2007 03:00 PM

LOL... I've never thought of Linda as 'immoral'... naughty/dirty maybe,...but without forgetting her morals.

For a million - no problem.

I'me perfectly capable of summoning up the most perverse fantasy involving Michelle Pfeiffer and mentally mix it with the best scenes I've ever seen from porn, and my own pasts "greatest nights" to get it up for long enough with a total pig to bag a million.

You can call me anything you like - I'd be really concerned about it while cruising up the Pacific Coast Highway in my new Aston Martin.

lily. 03-04-2007 04:02 PM

Now, Space Bandit, I don't think you are a bad person to do that.

If I were single, then I would shag a complete minger for a million. The act itself isn't my dilemma, it's the fact that I'm committed to my man.

As for you G... and I quote: "I prefer the old immoral Linda to the new moral version." ... I was always moral. We just never discussed anything serious before. And, I have the ability to separate fantasy from reality. Internet=fantasy. My life/marriage/family=reality.

So the "immoral Linda" is merely a fantasy really.

But in the film they were married, were they not? I thought we were replying in this context/situation.

Yes, we were, but Space Bandit gave it a different slant didn't he?

and, I would like to address this:

I don't see how the film would have been different with black or latino people in it. You do have a point regarding the Robert Redford thing. He is undoubtedly hot, and that helps.

But, if you had J-Lo (hot latino woman) & Jamie Foxx (hot black man) being propositioned by Denzel Washington (ROAR! - need I say more).. then it would still have worked.

Not allowed. I could say I'll take a million for a lustful orgy with 5 women, a donkey, and a tub of margerine. Hardly the same is it?

lily. 03-04-2007 04:22 PM

Start a thread then... In fact.. I will do one.. watch this space..

Mrluvaluva 03-04-2007 04:25 PM

here we go ladies & gents...............................

lily. 03-04-2007 04:26 PM

HERE it is!

GiRTh 03-04-2007 04:30 PM

If it was hot black couple living in the projects, played by unknown actros. and filthy obnoxious redneck the film would have been totally different. How do tyou not see it.

Let me get this straight. The only thing stopping Linda is her husband. Ok makes sense.

lily. 03-04-2007 04:31 PM

Cuz I don't look at black/white/latino any differently. I look at "hot" and "not" differently.

GiRTh 03-04-2007 04:35 PM

It's not about that its a bout a nasty man taking advantage of a situation. The fact that Redford is hot and a nice bloke in the film means that it's a bit too twee for me.

lily. 03-04-2007 04:38 PM

Right, then ur black/latino argument is out the window isn't it? It wouldn't matter if the Redford character was black/white/latino either. The fact is that they made him "charming" instead of sleazy.

There's a reason for this. People left the cinemas talking about it. If they had some nice couple and some sleazebag then nobody would talk about it. It would be all about the money. Putting in the sex-factor that is Redford made people consider whether they would do it or not, cuz lets face it, sex with Redford isn't guna be nasty.

GiRTh 03-04-2007 04:43 PM

That's my whole point. It's not about race but it would have looked worse if the couple were believably poor (ie. ethnic) and it had been a nastier business man. Adrian Lyne makes these films and always makes them look twee. He also always does them from the male point of view. That why Harrelsons character suffers much more than Demi Moores. In fact Demi's character even looks better after the one night stand . Adrian Lyne also did 9 1/2 weeks and Fatal Attractions. This film is like Pretty Woman it can't be taken seriously. A total dog.

Ok, so you are saying that a white couple can't be "believably poor"? I'm white and poor. I don't wear your argument there at all G.

I do agree with your "nastier business man" part though. They made Redford "nice". But, like I say, it adds something to the equation. It made David more likely to think that Diana would fall for him. He wouldn't have been so torn up with jealousy had he known that he was more attractive than the rich guy. So, I think it was a good way to play it.

And, it's not supposed to be "taken seriously". It's a film. It's thought provoking, and you have to admit it has inspired many discussions between friends and couples.

Ok, I just noticed this part. I assume you added it as an afterthought.

What do you mean by "makes sense"? Was that sarcasm muh dear?

GiRTh 03-04-2007 04:51 PM

Baloney. You answer your first argument with you last argument.

Remember this film was made in America. A poor white family is not so believable as a poor ethnic family. Jeeez.

Also, I've been to the bottom too and I don't ever want to go there again. So stop claiming you're poor.

I'm as poor as Diana and David are supposed to be in the film.
