There's not one bit of optimism/hope for viewers to latch on to, which isn't satisfying to watch at all. Contrast that to the first few episodes where June was making her escape, these past few episodes have been dreadful. I hope something positive happens soon or I might have to tap out.

They are writing their own script now

Omg the ending to that latest episode (Episode 6) :o Ofglen :worship:

I'm fully invested in this show again btw

Consideration by Rihanna ft. SZA being used to close this episode out <333

One of my favourite episodes tbh!

Josy 20-06-2018 02:56 PM

Niamh. 20-06-2018 03:08 PM

Has all of season 2 been aired?

Niamh. 20-06-2018 03:14 PM

I'm not sure because I kind of fell behind on everything I was watching, there's definitely more episodes than the 4 I've watched though, Season 2 is really good so far as well

Marsh. 20-06-2018 03:15 PM

Is the acting good?

I saw a trailer once and it looked a little amateur.

Niamh. 20-06-2018 03:16 PM

Yeah it is, there's some good actors in it - Elizabeth Moss :worship:

I think all of the acting is pretty great . The guy who looks like Craig David who plays the husband, and Poussay from Orange Is The New Black, are perhaps the worst of the regulars (sorry Poussay but you seem to be playing exactly the same character  ) - and they're by no means bad. Most of it is really good though. "The Commander" is genuinely ****ing creepy and Miranda from Mass Effect is great as his wife, too. "Aunt Lydia" is a fascinating character, too. Plus Nick (the driver) somehow manages to convey so much whilst also saying almost nothing AND (deliberately) keeping emotionally blank.

So yeah, well worth watching IMO. I still say it's very much a Netflix-style show though and I'd wait until season 2 has finished airing to watch (feel free to watch S1 whenever). It works better as a season long binge show than a week-to-week. Some of the episodes are so bleak that if you watch them standalone, it can be really hard going :joker:.

I have noticed that it's been weirdly difficult to get hold of episodes this season though! I've discovered that TPB does have them but you have to search " the.handmaids.tale S02E* " (with the dots and asterisk). Searching for "The Handmaids Tale" or even just "Handmaid" brings up nothing. It's bizarre.

I would guess yes, there's only 2 episodes of this season left and the story isn't close to being done...

Spoiler:

things are starting to fall apart / people are starting to go against the rules more, but the **** hasn't really hit the fan yet

I'd say there's at least another season or maybe 2 seasons in it for a complete story. A 3rd season for a revolution to come together... A 4th for it to be resolved. Though I do hope they don't drag it out just to make more seasons.

Niamh. 21-06-2018 08:51 AM

Up to episode 8 now

Spoiler:

I'm hoping Mrs. Waterford is finally going to turn good and help June although everytime I think that she turns into an asshole again. Emily and Janine being back :worship:

The thing is, she isn't so much a "good" character as just a very selfish one. I think there are indications that she's going to flip sides, but mainly because she's realising that her life as "The Commander's Wife" isn't really great and she's actually just as much a slave to it as the Handmaids or the cook. They kind of showed that in that episode. Yes, the handmaids etc. have been brutalised and the wives aren't... but, that's only if they don't step out of line. If they do, they'll be beaten and abused like anyone else. They also showed that wives can be sent to the colonies as well in a previous episode. But yeah... basically, she used to "be someone" and she wants that back, and that's why she'll end up turning on the Commander. She also doesn't LIKE mistreating people, but will turn nasty in a second if something gets in the way of her own best interests. TBH she's one of the more interesting characters in the show because of the nuance (along with Aunt Lydia who I mentioned before)

That doesn't surprise me, as much as I liked her Poussay wasn't much of an actress, kind of wooden.

I might binge watch at some point over the summer.

Yeah great analysis actually, spot on. She seems to be realising that she helped create this world that she's now a prisoner in. She is a really interesting character and I would love to see her and June properly team up

One of my fave shows right now! I'm so excited to see where Season 2 ends

Spoiler:

I have a suspicion that when the baby is born, Serena will struggle to bond with it as well as she thought she would and she'll realise that it's not "really her baby", and is June's. They've done a fair bit of foreshadowing of that (e.g. her relationship with her greenhouse saplings which she does see as "hers", and the situation with Janine's ill baby getting better with contact from her real mother). They're also strongly hinting that Serena could actually have children, as we know pretty much for a fact that the Commander is infertile... although, I was wondering if maybe she genuinely can't because of when she was shot?

But yes anyway, I think she pushes through the parts of it that she hates because she really believes that she'll be happy with a child... and it'll all fall apart when she realises that she's still miserable and all of the rest of it is for nothing as she's had to give up all of the other ways that she found fulfilment in life.

However... I do still think any alliance would only last for as long as it benefits her personally. She's not selfless enough to have an element of self-sacrifice.

Spoiler:

Oh I just automatically assumed that the purpose of showing her being shot in the stomach was to tell us this is why she can't have children but equally it could be a red herring

I was wondering aswell if June and Nick escaped to Canada what would she do about Luke or who would she choose

Up to date now and I had to come back to this post because the acting in the last few episodes has been incredible, especially from the actors who play Offred, Fred, Mrs. Waterford and Nick (TS totally agree with what you said about Nick, he does so much and yet so little with barely any lines, he's great)

I think this season has surpassed Season 1 for me
