In your opinion, others think differently. And let's face it, the crappy decisions go above and beyond a simple logo.

Yeah the "game is changing" last year was kind of annoying, I wish the other house was used throughout the whole season as 2 houses (or for 80% of it).

I'm slightly optimistic about this year, it feels a bit different.

They always advertise "big changes" none of which ever come to fruition.

It being the longest running or having millions spent on it has no bearing on if it's actually any good.

They built a whole new house on it and a new stage last year that is a big enough change if there was more interest in the civi version they would make more effort

T* 11-05-2017 06:15 PM

There isn't any interest in the civi version because they SLAUGHTERED it. Stop reaching.

A second house and a new stage.

Sorry, there was me thinking I didn't enjoy BB17 but then you reminded me Emma had a new podium, that's changed my opinion on the show completely.

You could say the same for CH4 after all it lost half of its audience on that channel

Denver 11-05-2017 06:17 PM

Last years was one of CH5's most successful series entertainment wise

Half of a 10 million strong audience.

The viewers agree... but wait.

Denver 11-05-2017 06:19 PM

They do what is best and favour the one the viewers want more

The viewers kind of did agree because it increased quite a bit on what BB16 was getting!

T* 11-05-2017 06:19 PM

Can we go back to the topic on hand rather than the 'I like BB y no everyone else :(((((((((((((' argument

It being better than rock bottom isn't the most glittering of compliments though?

People on this forum expect it to get 20 million viewers a night

This is a cyclical argument though, isn't it? They'd put more work into it if more people watched it, and more people would watch it if more work was put into it.

The simple fact is if you warp and distort a show so far from it's original concept, you'll alienate the fans who liked it at the start, and won't be able to draw in new fans because of the show's precedence.

Realistically, nobody is starting to watch Big Brother *now*, or at least no sizable amount. Continuing to bastardise the show and trying to trick your audience with the same song and dance each year just annoys people, and they are chasing a potential audience that just doesn't exist anymore.

Cal. 11-05-2017 06:24 PM

Yeah I agree that they should stop chasing a magical make believe audience every year and start focusing on pleasing the actual fans they have left. When they've pleased those fans then they'll begin to talk more positively about the show and will be able to entice old and new fans again .

Yes, look at all of the people expecting that.

Oh wait.

Denver 11-05-2017 06:28 PM

The amount of people who watch TV each night has fell by millions as catch up is more important and BB is CH5's biggest show on every platform they have

RichardG 11-05-2017 06:29 PM

the show was so boring by the end of its run on c4

c5's civ seasons have been ok, not great but better than bb9-11 (with the exception of 15 and maybe 16 i guess), and their cbb seasons have been amazing

i think endemol will keep the show with c5 if they still want it because no one else will take it. but i disagree that the show would improve if it returned to c4.

the golden clouds from CBB18?

Rob! 11-05-2017 06:34 PM

I've got to be honest, I absolutely adored BB17. Channel 5's problem is that it doesn't have enough faith in the format to let it just do it's thing. They are constantly chasing ratings which they don't seem to get makes the show a lot lot crapper than it needs to be. Unfortunately, the type of audience they've attracted because of those decisions means we're left with a show that has a completely different viewing demographic than what it started with.

It was the third highest rated series on 5 though

Wizard. 11-05-2017 07:13 PM

The ratings aren't the best worldwide either - Canada gets under a million, US about 6 million and Australia, well we know what happened there. It is a tired, haggered franchise but it has lasted so long due to the core fans of the show.

I view Big Brother kind of like Madonna and Britney, once they were icons on top of their game, and they continue to carry on but are nowhere near as popular as they were at the height of their careers. They're never going to pick up new fans, but the old ones who were there through the good and the bad allow them to keep going for those fans.
