Well it's an offensive term thrown at disabled people.
How else does "mong me out" make sense.

I know you may not have intended it that way, but it is what it is.

Well yeah but if you're not throwing it as an insult to anyone you're not really using it in an offensive context.
Saying 'i'm monged out' is hardly the same as saying 'you ****ing mong' imo of course.

Firewire 02-06-2017 11:00 PM

It's the same as using the N-word and you know it!

Rob! 02-06-2017 11:00 PM

In fairness that is a very used term in the stoner community

That's not what I was saying. I don't think Alf was directing it at anyone.

It's the meaning of the word. When he says he was "monged out" what do you think it is describing?

Being stoned

It's been a commonly used word since the 90's atleast

Mong = stoned?

Why do they use the word mong? Can you take a guess?

It's not too dissimilar to "****".

Marsh. 02-06-2017 11:08 PM

Not that I'm suggesting Alf intended that offence. Just pointing out why I think there is absolutely no need for that kind of language.

Oh, i genuinely had no idea. Its a pretty common phrase where I'm from to describe exactly what Alf described, I've never heard the word mong used in any other context

Well yeah that was more than likely the original meaning but i think in the stoner context the word's taken on a dual meaning now.People don't even think about the mental health aspect when they say it now.

Marsh. 02-06-2017 11:17 PM

It's not about an "original" meaning. It's the exact same meaning. It comes from it.

Just as someone falling about pissed might jokingly say they feel like a "****".

Oh trust me, I don't think a lot of people say it meaning offence but it's an incredibly derogatory term. Ignorance is bliss tbh.

Hmm yeh, I'll avoid the word in future, but I do think the definition of that word is changing/ has changed. I literally had no idea there was a meaning to that word before 'very high', it just never crossed my mind, assumed it was a word that was made solely to define that feeling haha.

But that's the thing, it hasn't changed. Mong and **** are words used to be derogatory towards people with physical disabilities, tics and learning difficulties.

So at moments when their mental faculties are low through smoking weed, drinking, taking drugs etc they'll use that same word to describe feeling "like a mong" or when they're physically unable to control themselves when pissed/stoned they call it "being a ****" or whatever. So the word is still referring to mentally impaired or physically disabled but making light of it via stoned/drunk actions that clear up after a few hours.

But, yeah, generally speaking people don't intend or realise what they're saying when they do but they're words that are highly aggravating to me.

But, anyway, I've ranted. :joker:

Alf 02-06-2017 11:33 PM

To be fair to you Marsh, I probably shouldn't have used that word on here. I was just in the moment and didn't think. I should have used lethargic. But what's done is done now.

thesheriff443 02-06-2017 11:33 PM

A guy once asked did I mind if he did some coke, I said its your nose.
True story was having a lap dance one the the girl said do some coke with me and I will let you screw me, I said you dp the coke and Il screw you, it didn't happen, think she wanted the buzz of us both doing coke.

T* 02-06-2017 11:36 PM

Oh don't worry about it. It's the word that aggravated me really, not you.
