Disgusting filthy piece of scum. I hate 'people' like that.

I mentioned it today to my section leader and to be honest he made me feel stupid for speaking up.

He said was he actually trying to see your badge though? I said well if he was he clearly shouldn't be attempting to touch me anyway especially where he did and I said other people knew who it was straight away and I was just uncomfortable in general and he said 'ok Amy we'll send someone in to look after you if he comes in while you're in ok?'

So basically wish I'd just kept my mouth shut and just mentioned it to someone if he comes to me again and they can take over

That's ridiculous. And quite patronising.

That's another way of saying "This issue is yours and yours alone so we'll send someone to look after you when he's around". Pathetic.

caprimint 09-10-2017 08:35 PM

Yeah not a good response at all, sounds like he didn't really know what to suggest

If it happens again go over his head.

The boss you spoke to not the perv.

Absolutely not acceptable. Your section leader has a responsibility to look after his staff, it comes under 'duty of care'. I hope you have the courage to take this complaint the next step up from your section leader and be sure to tell that person what your section leader said. If you don't want to take it that far, you need to approach your section leader next time you're in and tell him you are not satisfied with his response and would like him to reconsider what's to be done about the man who groped you. Before he has the chance to reply, you need to tell him that you'd prefer not to take this to his manager but won't hesitate to do so if he can't sort it out.

It's ok. I'm so much happier in this department. Everyone is great and we have a laugh. Some men are just creeps.

Sexual harassment is unacceptable. It's not part of the job at all l. We all have the right to work without fear if some twat getting too close.

DemolitionRed 10-10-2017 07:25 PM

wtf? Is this a large company or chain? If it is, report your "section leader" because he's dangerously incompetent and needs retraining, if not busted down a level. His response to this situation practically leaves them wide open to a lawsuit if you go to a doctor and claim that you've been psychologically affected by the incident (anxiety, fear of people touching you, etc.)

As for the "customer", considering he's done this to at least two staff members, he should be banned from the premises and given a trespass notice. If he violates that he can be arrested. I've had people barred for as little as swearing at staff... physically touching a staff member either aggressively or inappropriately would be a swift boot out the door instantly.

Amy Jade 10-10-2017 10:12 PM

I won't take it further unless it happens again I don't think. If somebody who knows me wonders if I was overreacting then others could to? I will avoid the man if he comes in again, there are a few guys where I work who will step in.
