Whether or not we need a word for people who dislike muslims, "Islamophobia" isn't the best word, as a dislike of islam as an ideology isn't exactly irration.
We need some sort of word to describe a person who homes in their hate on a specific religion. Hitler and Nazi Germany claimed they were anti-semite and yet semitic religions are Christianity, Judaism and Islam. In fact any religion with origins in the Middle East and who only believe in one God are semitic; therefore, a Muslim can not be anti-semite and neither can a Christian. Hitler simply hated the Jewish ideology, just as people today hate the Islamic ideology. If you look through our history books, most religions have suffered persecution at some point or other due to their ideology.

Hating Islam is no different than hating Jews.

I think there is a world of difference between having no time for the ideologies of a given religion and what the Nazis did to the Jews. Any such comparison in itself is ludicrous and unworthy of being given the time of day.

Indeed it is not. The day we have a word for the hate of each and every religion rather than giving such a ‘honour’ to one particular religion is the day the word might, just might, carry any credence. Until then it is an over-used, tired old nothing word used by drama queens.

Who is giving any particular religion, apart from their own, 'honor'? To defend a religion, even when that religion isn't your own, could be seen as honorable, though more likely, they just can't get their head around the negativity some people constantly spew out.

Everything starts with a grain of salt. Fear is the seed from which hate grows.

Negativity! Islamophobia is one such loaded negative word intended to insult, offend and intimidate anyone that calls out a hypocritical religion that preaches and practices a fair bit of hate towards other groups of people. We are all free to call a spade a spade.

How about femaleophobia, gayophobia, jewophobia to name but a few.

Then I guess we don't need the word Islamophobe, because anti-Semite would cover hatred toward muslims.

As I said femaleophobia, gayophobia and Jewophobia. You really can’t apply the use of the word phobia to one type of disapproval and not another. It’s all or nothing.

How is it any more ridiculous than Islamophobia - explain your logic.

Even then, an aversion to the ideology of islam is pretty reasonable, hating on the average muslim is not. I'd have less issue if it was Muslimphobia rather than Islamophobia.

That's right, though it could cause confusion. That's the word I'll be using from now on.

Kizzy 28-11-2017 10:40 AM

Me too, although I don't see it as confusion but ignorance. If you point that out however there is suggestions of levels of offence felt similar to that at a 'we are PC' conference

I know... Do you think it offends me that you accuse me of being PC? let it be known it doesn't anymore in fact I've become immensely proud of the fact.

I wear it like a badge of honour, I parade it as proudly as others wear their sense of entitlement or privilege
