Believe it or not, brexit is a lot more important than social mobility at the present time. I mean really, they should understand that not all activities can have the same priority, and its not for the mobility team to dictate what those priorities are

Its the same in local council Kizzy. My job entails regular contact with the local council and there's been some big changes these last few years. They are very strapped for cash and are doing a lot of reshuffling which includes downgrading and reducing their workforce. New positions are mainly temps or contracts that have to be re-applied for after a year.

Many charitable respite centers for children with disabilities have, up until now, been partly funded from central government but central government have just announced they are handing that responsibility over to local councils and local councils are saying they just can't afford it. Respite centers for disabled children are going to be closing down in droves. :fist:

When local council has to cut its cloth accordingly, that's fine if there's enough cloth to do the job. Unfortunately that isn't the case

It's so sad isn't it? In areas of high social deprivation they are going to be literally abandoning 1000s of very vulnerable people, the fundamentals of conservatism is to cut people adrift.... never before in modern times has this essentially meant life or death.

And people are just so accepting of it, thatcher said there is no such thing as society, and she was right.... society as I see it has blinkered itself either that or the mantras that those struggling brought it on themselves have worked fantastically well!

Will we ever see a reversal of that ideology? I'm throwing all my faith and support behind Corbyn as I'm praying he will be the one to reverse the scourge of complacency in the UK....What is the alternative, carry on watching vulnerable people die? trudge on like drones dumbed down by debt and stress so there is literally no fight for survival left to even aspire to anything if you are not born into privilege?

I think an awful lot of people have little to no understanding of how fiscal economics work and the right wing papers don't help because they have a government to protect. We live in a consumer world Kizzy. We can shop till we drop, have lunch out with friends in fancy cafes and if we get short at the end of the month we can use our credit card or go to a payday lender. We can lose ourselves on the web and watch hundreds of channels of tv. We are in our ultimate comfort zone and people can't see the perfect storm ahead of us.

Me and mine watch the economy closely. The approaching crash has been predicted for two years now (though right wing economists will tell us otherwise). They say its going to make the last crash look like a hiccup; that whats coming is going to be like nothing we've seen in our lifetimes. A part of me longs for this crash because I want people to wake up and see just how corrupt this government is. Its some comfort to know that the poor, the homeless and the left behind are the best prepared because they've been given years to get used to it. Another part of me dreads it because when it happens there's going to be some shocking hardships.
