No. It's not a blanket term, it's fairly simple.

If you discriminate against a gay person simply because they are gay you are homophobic.

Pointing out she's homophobic because she does not believe and has said she doesn't view homosexual relationships "equal" to a heterosexual relationship is a fact. It's not name calling, it's a fact.

Whether that is for religious reasons or not, it is what it is.

I don't know what rapists have to do with the discussion tbh.

There is a post on another thread from a gay man, I suggest you read it.

So... what does it have to do with?

She doesn't "believe" in gay marriage (well, it exists so believe is a funny word) because she doesn't think they are equal to heterosexuals and that their relationships should be acknowledged legally. That's homophobia.

But that's nothing to do with Ann Widdecombe, whose views we are discussing.

She didn't vote pro-gay marriage because she doesn't think they are equal to homosexuals. Homophobic no matter how much you change the window dressing.

She voted no

If she was homophobic she would have campaigned hard against it but she didnt

That's got nothing to do with anything.

Not all votes are basically asking "Do you find Human A as valid and equal to Human B".

If she voted against the rights of black people to get married, that would be racist as she would be denying them rights other people have based on skin colour. So denying homosexuals the rights of straight people based on their sexuality is homophobic.

It really is that simple.

Ok first why does it have to be homophobia she’s obviously not scared of gays or hates them

Second a lot of people are traditionalists and like to go off of the dictionary definition of marriage, that it’s between a man and a woman. This doesn’t always equal ‘fuk the gays they’re not equal human beings’ do you think someone like Ann holds someone at lower estimation because of their sexuality?

No she holds EVERYONE that does stuff in that house at lower estimation bc she’s a prude, it’s nothing personal to the gays

I am a gay man. I'm 34. I would like to think I'm somewhat intelligent. I am far to the left politically and Anne Widdecombe and I have some very different views about the world.

But, I don't thing we need to be carrying out a witch hunt over an off the cuff comment she made. She didn't say I think gay people are disgusting. She didn't personally attack anyone. She didn't use any unwarranted language. She just said "don't be disgusting". With a sneer granted, but even if she did mean it as a horrible slight to all gay people.. that's fine! She is allowed that opinion! What she is not allowed to do is use that opinion to discriminate someone. To bully or hurt. Until she does that everybody needs to chill the ******* out.

What?

That's like saying "That man isn't a rapist, he was the woman's boyfriend, they lived together and they had sex every night anyway. Just because this one night she had a headache and he just carried on doesn't make it rape. You have to be smacked over the head with a bottle and beaten up in a dark alley by a stranger for it to be rape".

We'll end it here because your understanding of the situation is laughable.

Not to sound like a broken record or anything, but she was literally the architect of an amendment to try and keep Section 28 in place in 2003

So yeah, I'd say she's had a pretty active role in stuff like this

Thanks Cherie, I always suspected you were a gay man but I wasn't sure. ;)

In regards to the thread, he's right. Nobody can be judged off one remark made in an edited reality show.

We're, however, discussing Widdecombe as a public figure who's been around long before CBB. That discussion goes beyond discussing whether her "disgusting" comment was directly referring to them being gay.

I am bored of you thinking your the king of the word when you are nothing you are the voice for nobody and nobody owes you anything.

So stop attacking every single person who doesnt agree with you because it got boring years ago

You keep saying this as though it means something.

You don't have to be scared of anything, nor attacking them in the street to be prejudiced towards them and think them a lower class that don't deserve equal rights. No, she doesn't run from the room screaming when a gay person appears. No, she doesn't scream abuse at them and slap them for being gay. But she does think they are of less worth than a straight person and don't deserve equal recognition in society and in law. That's homophobia.

Do you understand now?

I'm discussing Ann Widdecombe and homophobia.

Where you got the idea I'm discussing what I'm owed etc is baffling.

If you want to discuss me Adam, take it to PM. Or make a new thread I couldn't care less.

As it is, I shall continue debating as long as I please and responding to people's posts. If you find that "attacking" that is an issue YOU have to deal with, not me.

I'm disagreeing and providing explanations and then all I'm getting is petty responses from you. Put me on ignore if you don't like people disagreeing with you because you refuse to actually discuss.

Last time I'll reply to you on this entire forum, you are ridiculous.
