You don't really get given the option... there are only a few circumstances under which you can refuse jury service, and work isn't one of them, sadly.

That said, chances are that you either won't "get picked" anyway, or it'll be some piddly little case that'll only be one day in court. "Big cases" are pretty rare.

Omg I really wanna do this

AnnieK 08-02-2018 01:34 PM

My best friend has just completed a jury service - she got a pretty awful trial (child abuse) which lasted a few days and wasn't called upon on the other days so she was excused around lunch time each day.

I know, I just worry I will get sacked if I take too much time off work.

I always wanted to do this

My grandmother was called once and it turned out the trial was for her next door neighbours son, who she used to babysit :D She got out of it.

I don't think they can do that, not for Jury Service.

They cannot sack you for jury service as it is a legal requirement.

Vanessa 08-02-2018 01:52 PM

At least its next year, so I still have time to plan my holidays.

bots 08-02-2018 01:53 PM

i'm not sure if its the same at all authorities, but i think they have moved to a system where you can get called to cases over a period of a week or something. So you have to attend each day, and you may or may not be assigned to a trial

jaxie 08-02-2018 02:04 PM

People I know who have done it have only done about 4 days before being discharged. The longer than two week cases aren't as common as you think.

it will be 2 robbers, both straight and good looking and pals. Both caught in the act by CCTV.

after 11 guilty verdicts around the table will come Ness and her "Not guilty.. and can i get that cctv as a gif, the bit where they cuddled?"

:joker: Vanessa will argue that they have a great friendship and that the CCTV is lying

Vanessa 08-02-2018 02:44 PM

Trust me to get the big murder case D:

RileyH 08-02-2018 02:50 PM

My mum loves crime shows and all that but she HATED doing it, my dad has been called to do it recently as well

Vanessa 08-02-2018 02:51 PM

I love watching criminal court cases on TV shows. But being in a real court will be different. Exciting, but scary.

Oliver_W 08-02-2018 03:56 PM

I'd hate to be on a jury. I'd probably say I'm friends with the defendant or something so I get off.
