Why are these celebrities highjacking these sexual harrasment movements? They're the people that's been covering it up for years.

Erm..... they're the ones that started the movement love.

Time's Up is precisely about the film industry.

So why are they preaching to us? Just lock up Weinstein and anyone else who's been party to this.

Because actors aren't law enforcers, obviously and sexual harassment and gender equality doesn't just happen in the bubble that is Hollywood.

They're not politicians either. As you say they're actors.

People watch these self patting on the back award ceromanies to celebrate film, not to be lectured that all men are sex pests, by a group of people who have known about these goings on for years, but have only spoke out about it when it's come out.

Eh? You have to be a politician to campaign for equality and not to be sexually harassed? :conf:

They haven't said all men are sex pests. In fact, several men have also come forward with their tales of rape and harassment.

Yes, it's come out, by people in the industry. The predators are in there, but so are the victims. That's the point.

They haven't done anything that has distracted from the award ceremony besides wearing black.

Oprah Wnfrey has had a platform for 30 years to out her good friends like Weinstein. Why only this year did she designate herself spokesperson?

You can trust them if you like, but I don't.

Who said Winfrey was spokesperson?

It's the people like Rose McGowan, who were actually raped, that have exposed it.

And you have evidence of Winfrey knowing he raped girls I take it?

Winfrey is the richest and most powerful person in the Hollywood scene. Do you deep down think that she was oblvious for 30 years to what was going on?

That the casting couch existed, casual sexism, sex in exchange for work? No, just like everyone else in the world she knew what was happening.

Do I think she knew of specific men committing actual rape and kept her mouth shut about it? I'm not so sure.

Oprah was a victim of abuse herself are people forgetting that??? . It wasn't at the hands of Weinstein but she still knows what it feels like.

But that doesn't necessarily mean she knew what was going on , and like you say casting couch has been happening in hollywood for a long time and it was accepted or people just didn't bat an eye lid. Now years later its seen as sexual harassment .

And someone as big as Weinstein who has power and influence will of used alot of women who wanted to get their big break as actresses. So it was probably obvious in the hollwood circle that Weinstein was a sleazebag but again how many of them actually knew the full extent of it ? .

Mystic Mock 20-02-2018 03:36 AM

I'm not Kate Middleton's biggest fan but this is clearly an overreaction.

Imo this MeToo movement should only be about sexual harassment claims, I don't get why it is getting twisted into something that it shouldn't be about which is a women's only club? I mean didn't the actor who played Tom from Parks & Recreation get mentioned on one of these claims just because he didn't give out good sex to the woman? It just feels like it's getting out of hand in my view and is changing to something that it wasn't even supposed to be about considering men and women have been sexually harassed in these claims.

Tbf without evidence Oprah would've probably been in alot of trouble for defamation.

Bet they are ragin at the gays for pinching pink.

Oliver_W 20-02-2018 09:17 AM

The only people who would be "outraged" at this would be a small band of cat-collecting weirdos, and they get outraged at everything, so they can be ignored and not used as a consensus.

The strongest adverse reaction a normal/non-SJW person would have is "thanks for the support mate!" and then forget ten seconds later.

Marches 20-02-2018 09:28 AM

Apparently people actually were outraged she didn’t show her support lol ffs

Some of the comments I’ve read on twitter, including death threats, make me chuckle. Imagine wanting liberation and justice then inflicting stuff on others for not joining ur cult

And this metoo movement doesn’t even really make sense. Rape isn’t being unnoticed it’s just incredibly hard to prove we can’t just go around believing everyone who screams rape as a lot of people cry wolf

I think MeToo is meant to mostly be about "institutionalised" sexual harassment, such as only casting someone in a movie in exchange for sex, and people using their power to hide their misdeeds. It just gets drowned out by people including things like people saying words in the street, or dancing too close in a nightclub.

Yeah it’s original intention was good. Hollywood is fuked up. But now it’s become a bit of a witch hunt and things like this are just gonna scare men from dating lmao

I don't like the #me too campaign, any Tom dick and Harry can retweet that :bored:, and like you say many are falsely accusing people or just jumping on the bandwagon because that one time they felt they were "harassed" . Hardly the same as sexual abuse victims who have been traumatised .

Ammi 21-02-2018 07:03 AM

..I thought the Timesup movement was solidarity specifically within the entertainment business, which was why the wearing of black for those in the industry, which obviously was most people attending but not applying to Kate../..the Royal family..?...if she did wear a black ribbon around her dress specifically in support of, then that was something she didn’t have to do so credit to her, I think....that she found a way to ‘include herself’ in showing support and recognising the black dress code which the celebrities had decided on...

..oh Marsh just said that, the it’s specifically the entertainment industry.....I need to read Marsh’s posts more...

Marches 21-02-2018 07:12 AM

Metoo is no longer about the entertainment industry if you looked at anything regarding this you’d know this by now.

Ammi 21-02-2018 07:26 AM

...they may be the same tree but they’re slightly different branches of.....with Timesup being specifically about sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry is how I’ve understood it anyway...one is a ‘general’ and the other more specific focused...

Ammi 21-02-2018 07:28 AM

..actually #metoo isn’t a branch, it’s the actual tree...Timesup is a branch.../..I’m confusing myself now....
