I suppose my biased opinion is Lady bird really because of Saoirse so I went with 3 Billboards in the end as well

Still can't understand how The Shape of Water is even nominated though and why people love it so much

Niamh doesn't think the monster deserved love?

The campaign is to not make them so readily available to any old mentally ill civilian. Obviously.

Nothing to do with people in jobs who are trained in using them.

Those armed guards are paid for by the people who are going to virtue signal to try to disarm the law abiding people.

I'm not a big fan of celebs parading their pet causes at things like this, but in this case it is not really a double standard because you can be against the general public owning firearms, but still allow professionals (like private security guards) to be armed.

The clue is in the name "armed guard".

Sue down the supermarket is not trained to use a gun.
Nor mentally ill Mikey who snaps and goes on a killing spree.

People are campaigning for tight gun CONTROL.

So you're ok for celebrities being able to be defended by guns, but not the ordinary working man defending himself and his family?

Alf 04-03-2018 08:12 PM

Establishment Storm-troopers

They're being defended by someone fully trained and licensed to have a gun.

If Billy wants to protect his family, he can pay for a security guard too.

What if Billy wants to defend himself from a tyranical government that is going to come and get him, but the government is the only ones who have guns?

It's game over isn't it?

Well now you're entering paranoia territory.

They're campaigning for gun control. Anybody being able to get their hands on a gun anytime they wish is not good for anyone, as evidenced by the mass needless deaths for so many years in America.

When they're suggesting nobody can ever own a firearm other than the government then you can put on your tin hat. Until then...

MB. 04-03-2018 08:22 PM

Can we stop talking theoretical nonsense and start talking about how crap Darkest Hour is please thank you

Well, I wouldn't preach to Americans about gun laws. It's part of a different culture over there, and it's not our problem.

But, to be honest I don't get why they need to be allowed the heavy-duty stuff, or would be opposed to teenagers being banned from gun ownership and oppose proper background checks - things like that.

But as I said it's up to them.

Marsh. 04-03-2018 08:23 PM

Just a quick question. Does Alf ever stay on topic?

That's just easy words to say. But the USA is greatest country to live in, in the history of mankind. And the reason for that is the first and second ammendment. Never let them try to take that away

Yeah, the greatest country to live in... anybody can gun you down going about your business at school, watching a movie at the cinema, doing your shopping at the supermarket. And the government allows any crazy bastard get easy access to these machines designed for mass murder.

Really enlightened and civilised.

Redbone being snubbed for Best Original Song is a travesty by the way.

It's called Gun Control... not Gun banishment.

It has to be a song specifically written for the film though, Glover never really just wrote it for Get Out.
