It wouldn't "stop" the Russians, but it may make it more difficult for them to establish a stronghold in that territory, and that could be very beneficial for the US and it's allies. I guess the benefits, as far as military goes, would be strategic there ... Syria, on the other hand, their people have begging outsiders for help for a while now... but I would imagine that we would have to topple the Assad regime in order to put an end to it... the public support in the US for that is very low, but I guess if more news got out about all that is/was happening in that region, people would be more sympathetic because we would be putting an end to what Assad had been doing to his own people... I honestly think it could go either way...

Twosugars 11-04-2018 06:36 PM

Russia is already established in Syria, they have an exclusive agreement to turn one of Syria's ports into its naval base.

LaLaLand 11-04-2018 06:47 PM

I commend him for not giving a sh!t and coming straight out with it. It's too far gone to pussyfoot around Syria, something radical needs to be done, as much as it concerns me.

Do I think Twitter is the right platform to do it on though?.... No.

I agree.

PM calls special Cabinet meeting to approve UK action in Syria

https://news.sky.com/story/pm-calls-...syria-11326833

Without Parliament
Not Wise.

If those brief videos are fake
then Isis get their wish.
By now you would think a Real News (CNN , BBC or SkyNews) could get in there,
but no.

This is another insightful post, Maru. Food for thought.

It’s ****ing insanity.
One slight miscalculation and us or the US hits a Russian jet or a Russian manned base and we’re all ****ed.
This isn’t some game.

Nicky91 12-04-2018 08:28 AM

i don't give a damn about Russia, they are criminals using chemical weapons on these poor children

that's really not true. The Russians have been warned of pending action. If they choose to get in the way, that's their issue. Also Russia has removed much of its air power already from the area.

and just to clarify, the USA and Russia have been at war for decades. It's largely a behind the scenes war, but it is a war. The same applies to the UK.

Nicky91 12-04-2018 08:46 AM

this song is about all wars are useless, you haven't got anything with these wars

I know that.I know there’s been an arms race going on for years.

Russia will probably have subs in position by now. What happens if we hit a Russian asset and they decide to send one of their subs or jets out to try and sink a US/UK destroyer?
It doesn’t take much for it to escalate. The Russians are always coming over here pinging our radar.

It’s crazy.

that's the reason they have battles on foreign territory. The extent of any engagement is limited. Also, the west has been having on going incursions with Russians present in the same area for the last few years .... it's not a new scenario

Northern Monkey 12-04-2018 10:28 AM

I think this guy’s right when he says that both sides are bad and there’s not actually a real standing army fighting against Assad. We don’t want the RAF getting sucked into being the air wing of a load of Jihadis. If Assads regime goes down then who takes over?

it's not a nice place, and there is no right answer, but that doesn't allow us to excuse the use of chemical weapons, which is what this is all about.

Twosugars 12-04-2018 11:18 AM

I do get the point about chemical weapons being at a different level of atrocity. But what about those Syrians killed by "traditional" means? It's not about the people of Syria, it's all about geopolitical interests.
The West didn't intervene 5 years ago, now Russia and Iran have troops in Syria and won't let Syria go. Turkey is also drifting away from Nato and siding up with Russia.
How to "discipline" Syria without stepping on Russia's toes? If Putin feels like it he will claim Russian losses and dead whether they're real or not.

Yes Trump
is back tracking now
saying he may attack soon

Meanwhile
his generals are going to give him a plan

Trump don't back down, destroy Syria pls

Kizzy 13-04-2018 11:13 AM

It's blair/bush all over again.

jaxie 13-04-2018 11:55 AM

Well it's not really like blair/bush. In this case there is clear evidence chemical weapons have been used on civilians, more than once. It's a complex situation but if the rest of us in the west do nothing we are sending a clear message that Russia and friends can get away with anything.

From this it sees eerily similar.

it's nothing like the same as blair/bush. However, given there is probably time now, I do think it should go to a vote in parliament before action is taken
