She was on the Daily Show on ComedyCentralHD
a year ago
part of a big team.

She is 48 years old
and took a gamble with her show on USA TV
TBS.

Crowder debunks her or makes fun of her from time to time. She's a really rubbish comedian who makes political jokes, but the "facts" the jokes are built on are always misrepresented, and she says everything in a joke voice.

Samantha

It could just be that Rosanne didn't realise the woman was black, so didn't know making the comparison could have racist implications.

Aussie Rules player - Adam Goodes

Fron his wiki page -

Quote:

On 24 May 2013, during the AFL's annual Indigenous Round, a 13-year-old Collingwood supporter called Goodes an "ape". Upon hearing the abuse, Goodes pointed the girl out to security who ejected her from the stadium.[22] After the game, Collingwood president Eddie McGuire apologised to Goodes on behalf of the club. McGuire said that Collingwood had a zero tolerance policy towards racism, but also said that the girl, who later apologised to Goodes, did not know that what she had said was a racial slur.[23] Goodes said that he was "gutted" and that he had "never been more hurt" but nevertheless called on the community to support the girl instead of blame her.[24][25]
Do you think it's a not insane comparison in this case? Ape is a word that is used pretty much around the globe to describe people often indigenous people so, for me, its always an insane comparison.

A vid of the incident. Wind forward to about 1.20

But the woman's haircut does resemble those from the old Planet of the Apes movies...

Does that change anything?

Is Roseanne blind?

Marsh. 02-06-2018 02:35 PM

"I didn't know the woman was black" is certainly a fresh approach.

Beats the "My cousin's husband is black so I'm not racist"!

Maru 02-06-2018 02:55 PM

Tbf, I wouldn't have known that calling someone an ape/monkey was a common derogatory comparison towards black folk until I read that sort of critique on the internet. I always traditionally thought it was just meant to call anyone really stupid and ignorant (i.e. primate level IQ)... hence Homer Simpson being likened to an ape.

C'mon, there's no debate that the resemblance is there. The only thing to debate is whether or not it should be pointed out, and the possibly racist implications of doing so.

WTF So you actually think it is a fair comparison . I wasn't sure if you were t taking the p&ss with your last post. Thanks for clearing it up.

Personally I never compare people to animals but if you do then go for it however, word of warning, you may find yourself in this position in the future. Be careful with that

I wasn't comparing her to an ape. I said her hairstyle is similar to the hairstyle the (human) actress had in a 50 year old film.

Not gonna have six pages of back and forth with you.
You know where I stand and I know where you stand. I was serious about not debating this.

Alf 02-06-2018 05:01 PM

Technically it's not an ape, it's a character from "Planet of the Apes" so it's a human in a costume.

[Samantha Bee will address vulgar comment about Ivanka Trump on her show on Weds in USA on TBS channel.]
