Yet its okay to be ‘screaming’ at him in an oxegen mask because his lung can’t cope, I see...I’m pointing out the obvious, laughing at him in an oxegen mask is far nastier imo

Hopefully he has a full checkup and that when he leaves the house too, as this mask will help greatly and its something he maybe needs at home.

Correct Vicky, but apparently is fine to laugh at him, but pointing out losing weight could save his life is not okay

Ammi 23-09-2018 02:55 PM

...I’ve been reading quite a bit about sleep apnoea and it seems a vicious circle really because weight gain through the short and disruptive sleeping pattern is also quite common...so it’s really difficult for someone suffering to lose weight as well...and very easy for weight to be gained ...the masks like he has been given are the best soloution given by doctors as they also know how difficult it can be for someone to lose weight...poor Tomasz, it must be awful to live with and not get great sleep with his condition......

Honestly, I would agree with that. I don't think its funny at all that hes having to have this mask. I also see no problem that you point out that losing weight could also help a lot..its true. Now if you had randomly called him a fat bastard or something then yes, that would be an issue..but you didn't do that.

Maru 23-09-2018 04:58 PM

I doubt he gained that much weight from sleep apnea. In all likelihood, his being overweight played a big factor in how he developed the disease.

And no, it's not funny that someone requires a CPAP machine. Maybe a bit surprising at first  But not funny as OMG, it's the most hilarious thing ever, he's wearing a mask, etc... Untreated, it will definitely cause him more harm than good later on if his oxygen is chronically low. It's linked to heart-disease and afib as well, which can lead to fluid in lungs, which can lead to even more breathing/oxygen issues (and subsequently even more health problems)... basically, BB did the right thing...

Elliot 23-09-2018 05:04 PM

Obesity is one of the main causes of sleep apnea...

There’s one thing attacking and mocking someone’s weight which I don’t approve of, but like clearly it’s playing a role in a literally deadly condition

I know it's serious but I kinda cackled at this and then realised it's possible:worry:

andybigbro 23-09-2018 05:08 PM

Have I missed something? Has he stopped breathing for a bit when he’s been asleep?

Yes a housemate pointed it out before on the show iirc

I think he made a comment first night that he might stop breathing, but added not to worry as he'll start again.

poppsywoppsy 23-09-2018 05:46 PM

To al those who find it amusing, my 27 year old daughter died from sleep apnea.

What should be realised is that it is not only whilst sleeping at night, if he falls asleep at any time without this mask, he could stop breathing.

Only writing this, to those who find it funny, it is a life threatening condition.

Ammi 23-09-2018 05:59 PM

...I’m so, so very sorry Poppy......just an awful thing for you to watch Tomasz as well suffering from the same condition and the heartbreaking associations that must give you...I can’t even imagine and I’m so sorry......

...just to say though...I don’t think anyone finds his condition amusing in any way as such...so far as I can see in the thread..every single member who ‘laughed’ is a fan of Tomasz and is completely supportive of him in every way and don’t feel anything mean toward him..I think it was just an initial thing that sometimes happens....when we can laugh inappropriately and without thought as a reaction, you know...and we’ve all done that I feel ...and we can all laugh at things without giving thought and at inappropriate times ...but we’re not really laughing at that person as such..or anything they’re going through...

Vicky. 23-09-2018 06:09 PM

Sorry to hear that poppsy.

Yeah I don't find it funny in the slightest tbh.

Vanessa 23-09-2018 06:14 PM

I love Thomas, i think he's brilliant. So funny an genuine. I hope the mask helps him sleep better.

Cherie 23-09-2018 06:21 PM

How awful for you Poppsy, very tragic

So it’s okay to laugh at him as long as you are a fan ....but if you are not you can’t point out that his weight is a contributory factor and doing him no favours because that is malicious apparently ...that seems to be the gist of this thread

I'm so sorry to hear that, Poppsy. I'm relieved they got him a mask. Anyone who knows someone who suffers with it knows the signs and so it's disconcerting. I remember walking in to see someone not breath for what felt like forever... sometimes they are also more difficult to wake up as well and when they do wake up, they are more disoriented than average... so maybe they noticed these things and it's probably why they went ahead and got him a machine. The thing I won't like is if they play it down to being about the snoring, when that's not really what it is about...

Ammi 23-09-2018 06:28 PM

..I wonder why they haven’t given him his own bedroom as he has a serious sleep disorder..?...surely it would be easier to medically monitor him in his own room...

Glenn-C 23-09-2018 06:30 PM

I had a feeling he had sleep apnea. Good thing they've given him that machine it'll do him so much good

poppsywoppsy 23-09-2018 07:09 PM

Thank you, it happened quite a while ago but of course the issues are still very relevant today.

The mask is another problem, it is not a good look and it does blow cold air into the eyes. Sufferers don't like them but of course they save lives.

Weight is a problem with this condition especially in the throat and windpipe where it can cut off air supply. Thomas should have a sleep study overnight wired up to monitors to assess his sleep patterns.

Strange how BB can hilight problems both social and even medical, let's hope it continues for the good of all.

I never thought of that! They've done that in the past, most recently Katie Hopkins with her epilepsy. Maybe they'll move him in the near future
