Omg did you see the white girl two sugars!?!

Mokka 01-11-2018 10:27 PM

We watched the last two last night... in true Halloween fashion. Absolute Quality show overall... I could kind of predict the ending based on the set up, and I felt the way they tied up all the loose ends in the last episode has some weak story moments to it... but honestly the best of the haunting and horror genre I've seen/appreciated in probably my lifetime.

no :bawling:
too busy watching the uncovering

a possible rewatch on the cards

When Steven is told by his dad that...

Spoiler:

he saw a ghost without even realising, when he mentioned the clock repairman in his book gave me the heebie jeebies so bad. Stuff like that creeps me out so much more than blood and guts. :worry:

Jessica. 01-11-2018 11:09 PM

I started watching it this week, it's so good!

Twosugars 01-11-2018 11:15 PM

great pace, well-developed characters, proper old fashioned scares and a good yarn

Tom4784 01-11-2018 11:21 PM

The scene in episode 8 with Theo and Shirley in the car gave me heart palpitations.

Glenn. 01-11-2018 11:48 PM

I screamed out loud at that bit. Like full on shat myself screaming.

Brilliant series. The twist with red room had me shook tbh

Fookin shat meself when she came out of the back seat!

Did y’all notice the girl with the long white hair and white face in he background when the dad was uncovering the guy in the wall? :omgno: makes me wonder how many I missed in the background

There are LOADS

LaLaLand 01-11-2018 11:55 PM

I've been watching this, I'm a few episodes in, just watched

Spoiler:

How the one sister died and that SHE was herself, "The Bent-Neck Lady", so her whole life she'd been seeing her death, crackers. Did NOT see that coming, amazing twist.

I'm hooked, can be confusing at times with all the time travelling but it's seriously gripping! The DOZENS of ghosts just watching in the background in scenes that just now and then catch you eye is such a clever touch, really unsettling.

LaLaLand 02-11-2018 12:01 AM

Tonight me and my mate were watching and it was just me and her in the house with her little baby asleep in her chair next to the sofas, suddenly (during a really tense scene where we were waiting for a scare) her cat, who I'd forgotten about completely, started trying to open the door next to me from the other side, outside of the room, so the handle was going up and down like crazy on its own!!

Swear to God I nearly keeled over, proper "ugly screamed" :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

This was my favourite plot point. Just kind of genius really

Mystic Mock 02-11-2018 06:31 PM

The best show that I've seen from Netflix tbh.

Shirley's character in the present would've been the only major issue that I had with the programme, as even the pacing was near on perfect for the type of story that the writers were telling.

Marsh. 02-11-2018 07:13 PM

What was wrong with Shirley in the present?

user104658 02-11-2018 09:29 PM

I do love that, basically, The Red Room was the "Room of Requirement" from Harry Potter .

No. Since I don't think this incarnation of the Red Room exists in the original book. :smug:

Twosugars 02-11-2018 10:29 PM

The original book is nothing like the series so

Lol... this is the first thing my kid said... but I don't think people require horror in their lives

Tom4784 02-11-2018 11:46 PM

I watched the final episode earlier, it wasn't what I expected tbh. I thought it would be basically the Crains running from ghosts for an hour but I like what they did instead.

I found it quite emotional tbh, Nell's confetti speech really got to me.

I'm kind of sad they didn't find a way to adapt the picnic scene from the book, that scene always stuck with me.

Marsh. 02-11-2018 11:54 PM

I loved how the entire series also works even without any supernatural element as a story about mental illness and its effects on a family.

Olivia's anxieties about the world leading her to the conclusion that death was the better option, not always subtle but superbly played.

The Red Room literally luring the characters to spend time alone, loneliness exacerbating those anxieties and increasing them, "digesting" them. The less time they all spent together, the worse everything got.

Ugh. Loved it.

Smithy 03-11-2018 07:09 AM

Eh I’m not as big of a fan of the ending. The juxtaposition of this soppy ending against the horror theme of the series overall and it ending with the dad dying didn’t really work for me

Also I’m annoyed they left the bit after the demon dog in the kitchen open and the same with Nellie ending up in a different dimension for a couple of hours and then not caring

Tom4784 03-11-2018 12:14 PM

Just a minor thing but the actress who played Simon's wife did such a good job of imitating Poppy in that last episode when Steve's dreaming.
