Not seen much respect in that place before. But i cba to have this argument.

Some people want safe spaces and be able to use any excuse to hide away from the things that actually matter and some people want to actually see the important matters progress.

Its not worth arguing, just two differences of opinions here. I’m just not snowflakey enough.

There is no place in society for misogyny

And this the year of the woman too

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. My opinion is that I think it was a remarkably stupid thing for him, in his position, to say.

If you've got that from my post then you should read it again, not only did you miss the point but you got it completely wrong.

I'm saying it's a distraction, a smokescreen. If he actually used a slur of some sort then I could understand the outrage but as it stands, it's just faux outrage from people who don't want to face up to what their votes have brought upon themselves.

People who voted Leave AND Tory have ****ed themselves and no amount of ignoring the government's mistakes in favour to focus on the opposition is going to change that.

Better to focus on the present and real dangers rather than pretend to be outraged over fluff.

arista 19-12-2018 04:28 PM

Despite all news showing it,
Corbyn later confirmed he only said "Stupid People"
So Parliament accepts it.

No because she's a tory so the people pretending to be outraged about this would have ignored it.

It's a dumb thing to get upset about either way but the truth is, the people calling foul on this aren't actually bothered about it, they just want a reason to rage about the opposition.

Do you have some kind of thing going where you have to mention the word snowflake in every post? Or is it, like, ten "snowflakes" a day...?

Yes the Tories have turned Brexit into a monumental cluster ****. That doesn't mean I can't be disappointed when one professional politician tells another professional politician that she's a stupid woman. That's what this is about.

Disrespectful, rude, derogatory and a little bit sexist

Be honest with yourself though, if the genders were reversed would you be making such a big deal out of it? If she called him a stupid man, I would not blink. I certainly wouldn't raise up a stink about it considering how much her government have ****ed up in ways that matter. Getting upset over someone being called a stupid man or woman is pointless and it's just another distraction.

Parliament's too concerned with one-upping each other in the press and scoring points when a deadline looms ahead and we're no closer to having anything resembling a plan. This whole story and the faux outrage that comes with it is just another attempt at getting the nation to focus elsewhere.

Mitchell 19-12-2018 04:43 PM

It really looked like stupid people to me, but obviously it’s open to interpretation. I dont recall seeing this outrage when David Mundell told Yvette Cooper to ‘shut up, bitch’

MTVN 19-12-2018 04:44 PM

Corbyn has previous for this sort of behaviour of course

I am always honest with myself. And with everyone else.

I wouldn't get annoyed at someone calling him a stupid man. But if a Tory called a female Labour MP a stupid woman I'd be just as annoyed. And it wouldn't matter what else was going on in the world. All the time women are a minority in parliament it would annoy me.

MTVN 19-12-2018 04:48 PM

Talking about whether it would be as bad if the genders were reversed misses the point that women are under-represented in Parliament and have always been subject to discrimination and harassment in Westminster by men who have no respect for them, comments like 'stupid woman' are rooted in that culture

That's exactly it. Party politics doesn't come into it... It happened to be Corbyn.

And a lot of those men are probably feigning outrage and offense because it suits them to do so. This isn't an issue of sexism, it's an issue of party lines, scoring points and distractions.
