Din't worry arista, I understand if you want to play it and see no issue with such a game being even thought of, let alone made. I won't judge

No I do not want to play it.
But I understand how it would sell
Like TS said.

I bet a game where you carved up cute puppies or kittens would never see the light of day and the maker would be referred to the police most likely

Okay, that's quite a silly argument and what you're suggesting is a slippery slope.

The game is disgusting and the individuals that made it are probably ****ing warped but you can't charge a developer for a crime in a video game because there is no crime, what next? If a soap covers a rape storyline, should the actor playing the rapist be investigated? Or the writers for writing it?

The game and that example are two different things but if the world worked like how you wanted it to be in that post then it would inevitably affect on representation of difficult subjects in media and thus silence the conversation it invokes.

:suspect: That's a little far fetched.

Kind of like arresting soap writers for depicting murder and rape.

Rape story lines in Soaps are generally raising awareness, not there for men to act our their rape fantasies :skull:

How did I know it wouldn't be long before men would be defending this...

Hello International Womens Day!

Hello International Womens Day!

How about you actually try to read what I ****ing said before you make me out that I'm defending rape?! Utterly disgusting of you to disregard what's been said to tar an opposing opinion with such an accusation.

You made a dumb point about arresting people for fiction that, if it actually happened, would inevitably impact all representation of the issue since you were equating a fictional crime with a real one. I'm not defending the game, I think it's gross and it shouldn't be released but what you said is both hysterical and utterly harmful for all creative ventures that aren't sick ploys for attention like this game is.

but you are happy for this individual to carry on touting his wares to other companies with no censure so you are condoning it, so less of the hysterical outrage please

Wrong again, stop reading into what isn't there and and stick to what I've actually wrote because you keep getting it so very wrong.

I think the game is disgusting and I don't think any other company will take it on either. I don't really believe in censorship in most of it's forms, I believe with gross things like this, it's up to society to act and make it difficult for this game to ever find a platform to make money on and that's what has happened.

I don't think being angry at being accused of defending rape is hysterical at all, I think it's very reasonable and I'm waiting for your apology for such an uncalled for accusation.

Expecting people to be charged for fictional crimes is there is no evidence of an actual crime though? That ****'s ridiculous and, if it were to ever happen, it would set a dangerous precedent that would affect all coverage of difficult subjects.

Hello International Womens Day!

I haven't defended anything.

Maybe take some time out from congratulating yourself on your gender and read what was actually written.

You have suggested this man's details be passed to the police. On what grounds? Could you state his actual crime?

Hello International Womens Day!

Skjskjs all the posts defending depicting rape in games (and it not being a crime to depict it) apart from like one also hate the game put forward in the op. Are you honestly suggesting it’s a crime to depict crime? Unless it’s in some low grade soap opera of course!
Fwiw games can be a very mature and diverse medium. Many many games have done a great job of raising awareness of mental health, societal issues etc. This game clearly isn’t one of them btw

Marsh. 08-03-2019 02:16 PM

Also, silly me I didn't realise International Women's Day was actually a Men Shut Up Day.

Niamh. 08-03-2019 02:40 PM

I do think games like that should not be allowed to be sold though. Serious question to those who think (even if they dislike the idea) that it's censorship, would you have the same opinion if it were a game about Paedophiles on the prowl raping children?

i think a starting point would be violent pornography

They definitely should be banned IMO, it crosses a line

Absolutely agree. Oh hang are you talking about both or just the child example? :suspect:

I wouldn't care if it was never sold, I dislike censorship as a concept as I said before but it's not a hill I'll die on unless, as Cherie suggested, it becomes a crime to depict difficult subject matter just because that's slippery af and could lead to silencing important conversations.

I don't think the game ever will be sold on any legitimate platforms so I don't think it's something to worry about and there's nothing to be done about selling it on illegitimate platforms which would have likely been done even if it was banned. As it stands, it's basically already banned for all intents and purposes if no real platform will host it.

The whole concept of games like this, I'm not saying games shouldn't reference rape, as part of a story, but depicting it, or having the players engage in it is beyond a line that shouldn't be crossed

Cherie 08-03-2019 02:59 PM

this 'game' bears no resemblance at all to a well crafted movie with rape or murder as part of the story line, I dont have an issue with COD type shooting games as it is based on defeating the enemy which kids have played since the dawn of time ...but a game where the idea to move on to the next level is to rape innocent women, no sorry, that is taking artistic licence too far

Vicky. 08-03-2019 03:01 PM

Yeah, its bad enough that raping women tends to be just..there in many videogames. But its generally a side product, something you CAN do but could avoid.

This game..is literally about raping, thats how you play it. The creator is dodgy. I don't think the police should say anything however if I knew him IRL I would avoid like the plague if he thinks this kind of thing is acceptable and/or entertaining.

Agree that is the nub of the issue here

I've not come across any games in my 25 years of games that give this option :conf:

There have been these small indie edgelord side projects here and there, but rape is a BIG nono in gaming

Tom4784 08-03-2019 03:04 PM

When dealing with difficult subject matter, there has to be a reason for it and it must be handled delicately and it certainly shouldn't be a gameplay mechanic.

Tom4784 08-03-2019 03:08 PM

Yeah, rape and sexual abuse as a whole is pretty rare in video games. I can't think of many examples of it in gaming, I'm pretty sure the closest thing I can think of is Life is Strange but it's part of the story and I think it's presented in a way that's no different to how a TV show would do it since the game presents itself like a TV show.

Vicky. 08-03-2019 03:19 PM

OK guess I was wrong then..I don't play videogames at all (except for sonic, and abes odyssey :D ) so can only really go off what I hear from those who do play them
