In these countries it may seem that way .

But people who abuse religion are usually the problem , there's plenty of peaceful people out there who have a faith .

Good for you.

I wasn’t actually asking you, though.

Its horrendous that this still happens in 2019 mind. Backwards, totally backwards the men making these decisions (I agree many of them are probably gay themselves). I genuinely cannot understand why people care who shags who behind closed doors!

Not really sure why people surmise that the most homophobic of lawmakers are "probably gay themselves" and just acting out of severely repressed urges and self-hate, rather than just laying the blame squarely at heterosexual and religiously-insane feet. Just seems like an idle way of shifting the blame away from yourselves, and plays into the idea that gay (male) identity should always be aligned with self-hatred.

Whatever closeted individuals there are in Brunei - or Saudi Arabia, or Iraq, or Yemen, or Pakistan, or Eritrea, or Uganda - are most likely hiding for their lives, rather than changing legislation.

I have always said that these are the immigrants I would welcome with open arms..it took me ages to figure out the photos of all the young males I have seen whenever thier is a point to be made..but they were basically just scared young gay guys.

I felt ashamed once I figured it out a few months ago.

You can be imprisoned for life for being in debt in some of these countries.

Of course I don't think gay identity should be aligned with self hatred, however, it does seem to be, a lot of the time. At least half of the most homopohobic people I have known throughout life, both at school and at work, have came out as gay (or bi..either way, they have openly had a same sex partner once they chilled out on the hatred) themselves a few years later. So I guess its kind of..experience that makes me think this. Seems to be fairly common, though I guess, my experience is not universal and could very well be very different in a country like that where its actually a crime to be gay.

George Clooney is planning to boycott Brunei owned hotels after the country introduced new laws that would see people whipped and stoned to death for same-sex activity.
In an op-ed for Deadline, Clooney said he and others have boycotted hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Agency in the past for the country’s anti-LGBT laws, but said the focus had “died down” in recent years in the face of other issues.

However, he has called on people across the world to again boycott hotels owned by the group after Brunei introduced its new anti-LGBT laws this week.
Clooney said that he has stayed in hotels owned by the group in the past as he was not aware at the time who owned them.
George Clooney: ‘Are we really going to help pay for these human rights violations?’
The actor has now named nine hotels owned by the group and said he would not be staying in them again.
“Every single time we stay at or take meetings at or dine at any of these nine hotels we are putting money directly into the pockets of men who choose to stone and whip to death their own citizens for being gay or accused of adultery,” Clooney said.

:clap1: George

Good for him, it's refreshing when actual celebrities make a stand like that.
