There was a Black Mirror episode or part of it that basically referenced Cameron/Pig wasn't there? IIRC?

EDIT Yeah, "The National Anthem", the very first EVER BM episode:

Quote:

In the episode, the British prime minister Michael Callow (Rory Kinnear) awakens to be told by the Home Secretary Alex Cairns (Lindsay Duncan) that Princess Susannah (Lydia Wilson), a much-loved member of the Royal Family, has been kidnapped, and will be killed unless the Prime Minister has sexual intercourse with a pig on national television.

The episode received very positive reviews. It was later compared to Piggate, a real-life scandal which occurred in 2015.

I'm not sure the pig thing was actually true tbf, iirc the claim came from one unnamed person as part of a biography of Cameron that was pretty widely trashed and was never corroborated by anyone else

bots 08-06-2019 06:29 AM

The same applies as I said about Rory. It shows a weakness of character that I don't think is appropriate for someone trying to become the next PM

I think politicians often just say things like this to try and gain popularity with the younger voters. While retaining any support from older voters because it was so long ago so why be concerned now.

The pig thing though..I cannot explain that in the same way :D

I think this too tbh, I see no real reason why he'd bring it up otherwise apart from wanting to appear more 'normal'

Ammi 08-06-2019 06:41 AM

...also the media tend to ‘dig up’ these things...there always seems to be someone willing to give an exclusive of uni days or whatever.....so to prevent that by making it known yourself is quite a wise thing to do I feel...

...there won’t be one single PM we’ve ever had who doesn’t have weakness because there isn’t one single human who doesn’t have weakness...it’s good to see those weaknesses tbh, is how I think...and to see how someone has moved forward from something.../..the path they have taken from that ‘weakness’ as you call it, bots...

bots 08-06-2019 06:46 AM

I would bet my house that Gove has done plenty shady things in his lifetime.

And replying to Ammi, we all have personal standards. What we deem acceptable from people and what we do not. I don't find it acceptable for a future PM and I won't sacrifice my moral compass for anyone.

Ammi 08-06-2019 06:54 AM

...that’s cool and nor should you compromise your moral compass, bots...our compasses are all different...I'm not a particular fan of Gove but he’s openly admitted to taking something which is very controlling in its substance and addictive ness...?...but his life has not been controlled by it...that to me shows a strength, rather than a weakness...

joeysteele 08-06-2019 07:18 AM

Yes, I'm with Ammi.

The only thing I find odd is him saying he regretted it.
Why?

I never ever touched drugs myself but just about all around me did.
It's not a weakness, it's much like people joining in to get drunk when others do.
Or in the past smoking too.

No need for him to regret it.
Nothing really wrong about it, unless it is pushed onto and forced on others.

Credit to him revealing it.
No need to be sorry, good thing he dabbled in it but not get dependent on it for long periods of his life.

Nothing wrong at all, in fact makes him look more Human

Alf 08-06-2019 08:12 AM

Now we know why he gets up people's noses.

...and for me Joey, one of your biggest strengths is that you don’t judge others.. ...there are moments in time that we can all get lost in but it’s how our paths step from those moments, for me...

...anyways when I logged off earlier this was being discussed on the radio and has been since then...so a good thing for him to have said to be able to raise drug awareness and to discuss etc...something which is widely used atm...well done Mr Gove...

Yes agree with that. It's all about making themselves more human and interesting

He is ashamed......well at least he is now it's come to light...weasel.

Not a massive deal really considering it was 20 years ago, but could you IMAGINE the press coverage and outrage if a story like this came out about Diane Abbott, for example

armand.kay 08-06-2019 09:31 PM

love how white politicians can just admit to taking illegal drugs and Diane abbot is slaughtered for sipping an M&S cocktail on the tube...

Northern Monkey 08-06-2019 09:44 PM

I thought most politicians had a cheeky sniff before they go for PMQ’s.
Not even really news to me.
Politicians, lawyers, stock traders... they’re all at it.

The facists had an exotential crisis when she drank a bit of gin on a train, they’d summon a plague of locusts if she admitted to doing drugs, posh white men can do no wrong clearly
