Also funny how everyone wanting her to spend her life in prison are the same people who kicked up a fuss over Tommy Robinson be arrested for his many many crimes

So the people who are affected by acid attacks are racist and bigots? because its THEM calling for her to be arrested

I'm shocked to read this about Jo :o

People's true colours always come out in the end nicky, one of life's tips for you, for free.

I never really find comedy programmes funny.

I agree this was extremely unwise to use this terminology.
Before I took notice of it, I half expected her to have said more like some bodily fluid.
Battery acid was way too far.
Especially in the volatile times we live in at present in the UK.

Arrest her no, for what, she instantly said it was a joke, a bad one but a joke.
So to call for her arrest is ridiculous.

She can't be sacked by the BBC as the guy re Megan's baby was.
She doesn't even work for the BBC, she was a guest on this odd sort of controversial comedy show.

I'm surprised at Farage's outrage, he doesn't bat an eyelid in his put downs of races he doesn't like.

I don't think this will harm Jo Brand at all though.
She thrives on being controversial.

no, i doubt that

i think this was more a sort of misplaced inappropriate joke

but anyway my punishment for Jo would be less salary by BBC and a fine of quite a few millions

Oliver_W 14-06-2019 11:34 AM

Danny Baker shouldn't have been fired, and nor should she.

Jo isn't employed by the BBC, she is freelance

A point that seems to be being missed that.

Absolutely, all the BBC can do is not invite her on their programmes.

She'll lose no sleep over that.

Rather insensitive joke.
But hardly incitement or giving people ideas, anymore than the people who have said the milkshake incidents could have been acid.
Bad taste joke, hardly a sacking matter.

Saph 14-06-2019 01:21 PM

its not even that bad tbh.. all the farage fans are just up in arms

she's a comedian honestly, and what i said you got some comedians out there who are edgy between funny & misplaced humour

Beso 14-06-2019 01:24 PM

She will get a free pass cause of the charity work she does, same as jimmy Saville in a way.

Tom4784 14-06-2019 01:29 PM

Meh, gross comments but it's a comedy show. Selective outrage from the Farage fans.

Morgan. 14-06-2019 01:31 PM

It’s definitely a sick joke, but this isn’t the first time a sick joke like this has been made, and it won’t be the last, but yet received the most backlash.

In this day and age people try too hard to make something the most offensive thing that’s ever existed.

i've heard at a show here called College Tour one stand up comedian from us dutch say ''you have to be careful what jokes to make these days, he finds that sad since there was more love for comedy, more freedom in making jokes many years ago''

he's right that people are too quickly insulted, taking things too serious now more than 10, 20 years ago

I'm not to sure Dezzy, you just have to re read the fanny baker thread to see that he was condemned as well.

When a satire article is basically the actual story

Massive snowflake demands end to free speech over joke he didn’t like

Nigel Farage on Jo Brand
Nigel Farage has demonstrated his snowflake credentials by insisting the police get involved because someone told a joke he didn’t like.

Nigel took offence after a comedian made a joke on a comedy show on a radio station that focusses on comedy, insisting that jokes now constitute hate speech and are there to incite violence.

“Jo Brand made a joke about replacing milkshakes the milkshakes thrown at far-right figures with battery acid, and so she should go to prison,” Farage told reporters with a straight face.

“Anyone who looks at my record can see I’m a true believer in free speech, but not when it’s jokes I don’t like, or when there are political points to be scored. Then I’m all for getting the police involved.”

When it was pointed out that Nigel himself had said he’d pick up a rifle if Brexit was thwarted, he insisted that wasn’t supposed to be taken literally, and so is completely different.

“Jo Brand literally wants to throw battery acid at people like me, you can tell she definitely wants to do that by the way she chose a comedy show to talk about it. Whereas I spoke about picking up a rifle at a political rally, where everyone knows the words spoken aren’t supposed to be taken seriously.

“They are totally different. Yes they are. Shut up.”

Brexit Party supporter Simon Williams told us, “Nigel has a point, free speech has its limits, and those limits are making jokes we don’t like.

“Yeah, we could have just not laughed at the joke and then moved on with our day, but then no-one would know we are just a bunch of crybaby hypocrites.”
