Like dawn I think?

Well, the ones that are actually on that is... Some haven't been switched ON for years! Pitch black some streets.

One time I saw a pigeon sit on a lamp post in the day, and it lit up. It was like the best day ever.

Must be a council decision, ours cut them all off pretty early too... no idea of the specific time though. Seems about 1am.

Kate! 15-06-2019 12:40 AM

When it goes dark.

Why would they go off when it's still dark?

caprimint 15-06-2019 04:56 AM

Why would anyone make a note of it?

smudgie 15-06-2019 07:01 AM

Exactly 2minutes after the one in our storm porch.
At the minute they go off before 4 in the morning, because of the daylight.

Ammi 15-06-2019 07:07 AM

...I feel so bad and inadequate that I don’t know the answer to this question...

They follow the sunset/sunrise schedule here

Some councils do switch them off in the early hours to stop light pollution (save money) because it interferes with star watchers etc.

So is it to save money or because of light pollution??

it's both and in some cases they will say it's to stop light pollution to save money.

There are arguments for and against. One could easily say that very few people benefit from lights being on in the middle of the night and its just not economically efficient. In terms of global warming, switching off the lights even for a few hours will do wonders for the environmental targets
