I'm no huge fan, but to be completely fair, Madonna wearing these outrageous outfits and being sexual etc is not a new thing. So I tend to agree with it's ageist to suggest that she was ok doing that for years and wasn't regarded as "desperate" but now that she's a certain age it's "desperate" when it's the kind of artist she's always been?
If she was never one for elaborate costumes and showing skin and had started doing all of this in an attempt to garner sales/attention that had long since faded I would agree it was a desperate act. But it's Madonna doing Madonna really. |

People don't go to Madonna concerts to listen to a vocalist like they do, say, Adele. They go to see the show/spectacle that she puts on. |

They put things out on the shelf, and it's there for the public to take it or leave it. Nobody forces you to listen to or buy Madonna's music either. |

It’s ageist at best. It’d be like a company getting rid of someone for a younger person just because they’d hit their late 50’s.
Performing and making music is what Madonna wishes to do, so why shouldn’t she have that right? |
Nope. I think she's brilliant. I've been a huge fan since I was a teen

I've seen Madonna sing live and she sounded great. She also puts on the most amazing show.

People still pay for her shows and buy her albums... and tune in to Eurovision, maybe for the first time, to see her. If she has something to offer in her business and talent that people want to pay for... who are you to say she needs to quit. If you don't like it... turn it off, don't buy her album, don't go to her concert. I don't like many artists... and my money and time aren't spent on them. I don't even bother making a thread about the ones I don't want to hear from. :idc:

I should clarify that I have seen Madonna in concert in the past, and have loads of her albums. I have heard so many singers where their voice just goes and while Madonna and many other were not great singers to start with, it's still legitimate to say they are crap now. I chose to use Madonna as an example because she is currently out there promoting herself.
I was a massive fan of Jethro Tull, but Ian Anderson, the man behind the band has literally no voice left these days, yet he still goes on stage and croaks, it's embarrassing to listen to and diminishes how good he was in his prime. Elton is another .... completely dire now Those who are not naturally gifted singers or who strain their voices when they sing just don't last, and I for one don't want to listen to them |
Well, I think she's still amazing. I love how she keeps reinventing herself. And she's very creative.

Madonna being 60, ok to criticize her outfits at her age
but Iggy Pop at age 72, performing topless :umm2: |
