I'm no huge fan, but to be completely fair, Madonna wearing these outrageous outfits and being sexual etc is not a new thing. So I tend to agree with it's ageist to suggest that she was ok doing that for years and wasn't regarded as "desperate" but now that she's a certain age it's "desperate" when it's the kind of artist she's always been?

If she was never one for elaborate costumes and showing skin and had started doing all of this in an attempt to garner sales/attention that had long since faded I would agree it was a desperate act. But it's Madonna doing Madonna really.

She is though?

People don't go to Madonna concerts to listen to a vocalist like they do, say, Adele.

They go to see the show/spectacle that she puts on.

Tbf, that's like asking why do the supermarkets force so many products on us. They don't.

They put things out on the shelf, and it's there for the public to take it or leave it.

Nobody forces you to listen to or buy Madonna's music either.

There's always been a 50/50 mixed reaction on here regarding Madonna, so I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

I was talking about the people i was with at the time , the forum never came into it.

It’s ageist at best. It’d be like a company getting rid of someone for a younger person just because they’d hit their late 50’s.

Performing and making music is what Madonna wishes to do, so why shouldn’t she have that right?

Vanessa 18-06-2019 06:06 AM

Nope. I think she's brilliant. I've been a huge fan since I was a teen

Vanessa 18-06-2019 06:07 AM

I've seen Madonna sing live and she sounded great. She also puts on the most amazing show.

Mokka 18-06-2019 06:09 AM

People still pay for her shows and buy her albums... and tune in to Eurovision, maybe for the first time, to see her. If she has something to offer in her business and talent that people want to pay for... who are you to say she needs to quit. If you don't like it... turn it off, don't buy her album, don't go to her concert. I don't like many artists... and my money and time aren't spent on them. I don't even bother making a thread about the ones I don't want to hear from. :idc:

...thats a wonderful way of putting it, Marsh.....she’s no different a performer or a vocal artist to what she’s ever been ...and she’s doing it for the older female with style......I know she had some criticism for her Eurovision performance as Jax has said...but I’ve also seen lots of huge praise for the performance as well...and thats the thing as well...she wouldn’t be Madonna if she didn’t get people talking about her, both praise and criticism...she’s consistently amazing and no one’s going to tell her to sit down and have a cup of tea...which is one of the things I love about her......

She's so cool!

I should clarify that I have seen Madonna in concert in the past, and have loads of her albums. I have heard so many singers where their voice just goes and while Madonna and many other were not great singers to start with, it's still legitimate to say they are crap now. I chose to use Madonna as an example because she is currently out there promoting herself.

I was a massive fan of Jethro Tull, but Ian Anderson, the man behind the band has literally no voice left these days, yet he still goes on stage and croaks, it's embarrassing to listen to and diminishes how good he was in his prime. Elton is another .... completely dire now

Those who are not naturally gifted singers or who strain their voices when they sing just don't last, and I for one don't want to listen to them

Vanessa 18-06-2019 06:35 AM

Well, I think she's still amazing. I love how she keeps reinventing herself. And she's very creative.

Madonna being 60, ok to criticize her outfits at her age

but Iggy Pop at age 72, performing topless :umm2:

Then don't. It's within your rights and freedoms not to. It's within theirs to perform still. Problem solved.

the clear sexism is disgusting, you’ve got acts like mick jagger, rod stewart and bruce springsteen (who’s released his album at the same time as madonna) who don’t constantly get criticised because of their age, but of course since madonna is female that’s all she ever gets these days.

Madonna has never been an amazing vocalist sure but she sure can sing, her music is in a different type of category as to other singers as she uses her vocals in a different type of way which still has made her the highest selling female artist of all time so

I bet you haven’t even listened to her recent album anyway which critically is her most acclaimed album since 2005..

Are you criticising Jagger, Stewart and Springsteen?

Bit sexist.
