Suicide Squad had early good reviews and look how that turned out.

Still I'm optimistic Birds of Prey will be a good film.

I just got out. Really fun, enjoyable film. Nothing amazing but good for what it was.

LaLaLand 07-02-2020 06:32 PM

A friend of mine has just seen it and said that although it's far from excellent, it's extremely good fun and very enjoyable, action packed and far, far superior to Suicide Squad on the whole.

Tony Montana 08-02-2020 12:54 AM

I'm watching this either tomorrow or Sunday. I'm excited due to the good reviews it's received.

Without spoilers, did the other Birds of Prey ladies get a lot of screen time? I know Harley is the main focus but I do hope the others weren't just in the background a lot.

And how was Black Mask?

Tony Montana 09-02-2020 11:29 AM

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it, it was kinda slow at first but it quickly picked up and it culminated in an epic ending. Margot killed it again as Harley - she really was made for this role, Ewan was a great villain - although I would've preferred him to be more menacing tho and less jokey but overall he was still a great villain, Black Canary and Huntress were pretty badass characters and both shone, although I wish the latter had more screen time. The action was cool and so was the humor.

I'd give it an 8/10. I can't believe i'm saying this but I think it's my new favourite DCEU film.

Tom4784 09-02-2020 05:58 PM

I thought it was really good, it wasn't perfect though. The pacing is all over the place and the film is mostly set-up for the end but it was entertaining throughout and Margot's probably the best live action Harley Quinn we'll get.

It's a shame that the actual Birds of Prey are sidelined so much though, this is really a Harley film with the BOP serving as extended cameos tbh.

Adamw92 09-02-2020 07:58 PM

I went to see this today and I really enjoyed it. It had its comedic moments like I was expecting but they didn’t feel forced or like they were constantly trying to fit as many as they could into it so I’m happy with that and I thought the action scenes were very good!

LaLaLand 09-02-2020 08:01 PM

It's had the lowest ever DC opening weekend at the Box Office, taking in just $33 million (predicted to have made at least $45/50 million).

It surprised me but I reckon the film will have legs, it deserved to have a better opening weekend but I guess the misogynists threw their dummies out of the pram.

Yeah suicide squad was a bit disappointing.

Tom4784 11-02-2020 03:39 PM

The film has been renamed due to a disappointing opening weekend. It's now called 'Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey'.

Tony Montana 11-02-2020 03:47 PM

Yikes! :skull: Poor the other female cast members, they never stood a chance.

Tom4784 11-02-2020 04:07 PM

Jurnee deserves better, she makes an excellent Black Canary but I imagine those characters (and their actresses lacking star power) will be blamed and then dropped from the DCEU altogether.

I imagine Gotham City Sirens will be rushed into development and Margot will probably have her hand forced in casting more recognisable talent as Poison Ivy.

Then again, the film could rally with good word of mouth like The Greatest Showman did (Odd comparison, I know, but they both had underwhelming starts while the latter managed to rally with an legendary hold on the box office).

The R rating in America really hurt their numbers though, the film really didn't need to be R.

LukeB 11-02-2020 04:10 PM

I've heard nothing but good reviews so i'm quite surprised.

Brother Leon 11-02-2020 08:08 PM

Should never have been Rated R. There was no real need for it having watched it and it hasn’t helped the numbers at all. I feel for the girls, because the movie was fun tbh.

DC and Warner Bros are going to be desperate for Pattinson Batman to be a hit.

The hashtag for it on Twitter is a cesspool of them preaching that the film is pushing a “woke” agenda and saying it’s a crap film when they haven’t even seen it, half of them are basing their opinions on the trailers and passing off their opinions as facts.

Oliver_W 17-02-2020 10:46 PM

To be fair the marketing and promotional interviews made the film look like it was aimed at the "woke" crowd, even though the film itself was actually fine. Making it look like a "girl movie", when most of the audience was actually male probably didn't help either.

But yeah, it was okay, I'd like it more if it was about the actual Birds of Prey from the comics, and didn't include Harley :joker:
