Pop music has always had this factor so let's not pretend you come from some generation that had perfect and superior music. There's great music and the shallow/bland music in any time period.

But if you spend your time just listening to the old hits you're not going to find many current artists that you like. :)

He's very similar to many who came before him, like James Blunt and James Bay. Every single song he makes is incredibly dull and with nothing interesting or original about them. It's not even the generic part, both him and Ariana are generic, but at least her music is fun.

They may not follow current trends and what is in fashion but they are not unique.

Guy singing with guitar and lady with a big voice singing ballads are incredibly common.
