But, apparently Kevin Williamson's ideas for Scream 4 were vastly different to what we got. He left the project and it was re-written IIRC.

I think the plot is pretty much as he wrote it but Wes and Bob Weinstein changed some things around. I read Kevin wanted Sidney to 'die' at the end and Jill be the anti hero and then as the movie ends a paramedic calls out to say Sid is breathing and Jill looks horrified and then in Scream 5 Sid would have amnesia and forget Jill was a killer.

Think he was against Olivia's death being so graphic too.

Is she the one that was gutted on her bed or something?
Yeah, I always thought that death stuck out like a sore thumb. Didn't really fit the movie.

Yeah, Jill and Kirby's friend next door she wasn't meant to be killed so graphically but the producers wanted more blood basically and Kevin thought it didn't fit and he hated the hospital ending he thought it was too similar to the Black Christmas remake, apparently.

Olivia's death being so graphic was great

Thanks. She was the fan favourite at the time of its release, so it made sense not to kill her off. A Scream 5 with her as the protagonist would've been great.

Not Dewey. D:

Although I think out of all 3 protagonists his death would be the least saddest. He was supposed to die in the original script before it got leaked iirc.

I mean Sidney is quite obviously going to turn psycho and kill become the killer it’s in her genes making way for Gale to become the new final girl

We had told you back in September of last year that Spyglass Media Group was resurrecting Ghostface and the Scream franchise, and today brings a very, very exciting update.

Discussing Film is reporting that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the two directors of last year’s hit horror-comedy Ready or Not, will be directing “Scream 5“!

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett make up 2/3s of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence. The group was behind the “10/31/98” segment of our own V/H/S, as well as the “Way Out” and “Way In” segments of our Southbound. The other member of Radio Silence is Chad Villella, who is on board to executive produce the new Scream alongside Kevin Williamson.

Williamson, of course, wrote three of Wes Craven’s four Scream movies.

Discussing Film notes, “Plot details are scarce but sources say it will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

Will the new film connect to the previous installments or bring us an entirely fresh take on the slasher tale of a masked killer knocking off pretty young folks? We don’t know at this time.
Perched that Kevin is involved but looks like it will be an entirely new story.

Neve Campbell has been approached and is currently in discussions with the directors. I think it’s a given that David and Courtney have been approached also.

Jake Hamilton who interviewed Neve today has been asked to take down the interview until nearer the films release so it looks promising.

Oh I’m perched if Neve is in talks and Kevin is on board.

The cast of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's Scream 5 is beginning to grow, as David Arquette is the latest original star to sign on for the franchise reboot.

Following recent reports that Neve Campbell is in talks to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, Arquette has been attached to play Sheriff Dewey Riley for the first time since 2011's Scream 4. "I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my ‘Scream’ family, old and new," Arquette told Variety. "Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy."

Spyglass noted filming is due to start later this year with COVID-19 safety protocols in place. Elsewhere, other "legacy" cast members are in conversations to reprise their roles.

News that Arquette is coming back follows comments from 2019 where he admitted he'd happily play Dewey Again. He even pitched his own idea in which he answered the all-important question of whether Dewey would still be married to Gale Weathers. That said, there's currently no news on whether Courteney Cox is expected to play the return.

Plot details are under wraps but the film will be an original story co-written by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, “Castle Rock,”) with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak producing for Spyglass.

Creator Kevin Williamson will serve as executive producer. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) will direct and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, will executive produce alongside Williamson.

Wes Craven's original Scream was praised for being a meta reinvention of the tried-and-true slasher genre. The first movie was quickly followed by a sequel in 1997 and the third movie in 2000. After Scream 3's disappointing box office and an 11-year hiatus, the series had a modern reboot for Scream 4. Although this was meant to kick-start a "new" trilogy, the film underperformed and led to the plans being scrapped. Moreover, Craven's death in 2015 and three seasons of an unrelated Scream TV series cast doubt over a movie future until the surprise announcement of Scream 5 in late 2019.

While there were plenty of deaths across the four-movie franchise, Sidney, Gale and Dewey all survived multiple Ghostface massacres. Given the cryptic tease of more "legacy" characters being offered a role in Scream 5, horror hounds will have to wait and see if any other familiar faces from Woodsboro will join the reboot.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Scream 5 stars David Arquette. The film does not yet have a release date.
Lowkey hyped

Only for her to return as the killer in Scream 6: Resurrection?

I agree.

It's like when they killed off Laurie in Halloween Resurrection or Ripley in Alien³. It just doesn't work killing off the person the audience has love for and it wouldn't make sense for Sidney to suddenly turn killer either, she's always been smart, resilient and caring.

Tony Montana 23-05-2020 02:37 PM

Here for Dewey returning but keep it if Sidney will be killed early on.

Marsh. 23-05-2020 02:42 PM

I think they're more likely to kill Gale Weathers first out of the remaining original trio.

Tom4784 23-05-2020 03:55 PM

It would be a mistake to kill any of trio off in a cheap way like that.

LukeB 22-07-2020 08:33 PM

Not sure how 100% true this is but this guy has been making videos about the upcoming Scream film.

dbd players do you remember ghostface dbd trailer? maybe that was some kind of hint because two main film characters are said to be costco workers (maybe i'm overthinking it) but it seems to make sense now why this was ghostface's trailer.
