Good for him, but it has to be down to personal choice, stopping eating meat alone will not safe the planet, I agree with Livia that the amount of plastic stuff sold needs to be addressed, and packaging should be top of that list, is there any reason sweet companies cannot provide tins which can be recycled, it used to be tins of sweets not plastic boxes of sweets or some form of recyclable cardboard instead, floor to ceiling displays of plastic boxes of sweets and biscuits this time of year are sickening in all honesty

Which programme was that? There are literally 100s of good quality books on veganism and vegitarianism. To say you don't know how or where to begin now does seem a bit ignorant. If you're not sufficiently prepared or educated the maybe it isn't for you.

Sickening. that's a good choice of words.

Crimson Dynamo 18-11-2019 12:17 PM

the problem is too many people and Africa is the huge issue going forward. India, Bangladesh and Pakistan and Africa should be limited to one child only. Ideally a total ban on procreation there save nomadic tribes (ie in city areas). From the west all flights for holidays stopped forthwith with only essential travel by plane.

Who said it would?.. there are literally 100s of factors that would need to be addressed in order to save the planet. This thread deals with one. It's not helpful to throw about the usual whataboutism, it's counterproductive.
Make a thread about plastic waste or consumerism if you like.

I think most would prefer to put dairy and beef farmers out of business first

Again, overpopulation is an issue...but not for this thread.

I said it...we don't need to make individual threads for something that is linked to the demise of the planet which is the point of this thread, and I will not be ordered about by you kizzy

why what is this thread about please?

Kizzy 18-11-2019 12:26 PM

Well no matter I see the way the threads going, David Attenborough has gone veggie so nobody can fly on planes and all cattle farmers should go out of business.
I'm going to leave you to it. I've said my piece thanks.

how can you discuss the fact he has gone veggie, as he just has. the article states

"In a video, Attenborough “warned” that “we need to start making serious changes in order to combat climate change,"

so the causes of climate change are in the discussion, what on earth is your point as i dont get it and i am sure others may agree??

Right now, yes it would, but as with all technology, the process would be streamlined I imagine, would eventually end up being much cheaper, given that there'd be no need to raise and feed a herd of farm animals, and has the added effect of being much greener.

Animals are needed

Veg and Vegans
are out numbered.

Animals are needed yes, but we don't have to kill them, when the technology arrives to bring us synthetic meat, nothing would have to die to make it a reality. It's not something that is imminent, but it will eventually come.

Kizzy 18-11-2019 01:00 PM

Not quorn... That's nasty :(

I'm talking about lab grown meat, it sounds icky, but it's still better than battery farming living sentient creatures to feed us.

If scientists perfect the way of making synthetic meats, we'd never have another "Chicken shortage at KFC" headline again

The post of a man who didn't get his hot wings on that day.
