Surprised Bale wasn't nominated either.

Pretty good nominations. There's nothing there I think shouldn't be, and likewise there's nothing or no-one I think is missing :) I've not seen every movie from last year though.

So happy both Joaquin Phoenix and Leo Did Caprio were nominated. My favourites!

Vanessa 13-01-2020 04:10 PM

Joaquin Phoenix deserves that oscar. He was incredible!

What's whiny about it? Just a normal voice.

If you'd like to read about how much Green Book sucks instead:

Eh, I'm a bit funny about voices, I usually have subtitles on if I watch youtubers :joker:

Thanks! I'd not seen the movie, and I didn't know anything about it, so didn't know much about it. I roughly assumed it was about the musician on some kind of tour, and his friendship with his driver or something.

It's pretty gross that the real green books were even needed ("needed") recently enough for there to be cars...

Beastie 13-01-2020 09:23 PM

Taron Egerton should have been up there.

LaLaLand 14-01-2020 01:25 AM

Was Jordan Peele's "Us" released before/after last year's ceremony? Because I'm sure it's after and I'm VERY shocked Lupita didn't get a nom for her role(s) in that! She was seriously terrifyingly great as Red.

dutch special effects make up artist Arjen Tuiten among nominees for oscar, for his work on Angelina Jolie in Maleficent 2

According to Oddschecker

Best Picture odds

1917 - 1/2
Parasite - 9/2
Once upon a time in Hollywood - 8/1
Joker - 9/1
The Irishman - 66/1
Jojo Rabbit - 80/1

Looks like it's between 1917 and Parasite.

I'm not sure if a foreign language film has won before, don't think so. So Parasite doesn't have history on its side. Which means 1917 wins.

MB. 04-02-2020 03:55 PM

If Roma couldn't win, Parasite won't (unfortunately)... I read a tweet saying that at least 17 members of the Academy admitted they hadn't even seen it because they didn't want to bother with subtitles

Up until a few weeks ago I was fairly confident that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood would win Best Picture, but now I can't imagine it being anything other than 1917

LaLaLand 09-02-2020 07:42 PM

Final predictions - I'm predicting/hoping for a good night for OUATIH, seeing as we're in Hollywood and the movie is a love letter to the industry/Hollywood itself, always goes down well at the Oscars.
