Can someone remind me what was so good about Michael Madsen?

He was there for a middle aged alcoholic's on air breakdown. Still not seeing how that made him an entertaining housemate.

I remember her being pretty full on with him when drunk. But aside from Denise, he didn't feature or do anything at all.
