We live in an age where wilful ignorance is seen as enlightenment and science is becoming demonised because people only care about things that fuel their delusions, not facts.

I just don't get the "why" for a hoax. It's crippling economies, I can't think why governments would want that

I made a thread about a Netflix series today actually called The Social Dilemma, I think maybe that might begin to answer some of why people are getting caught up in conspiracies like this

People are simply rejecting reality when it doesn't suit them. A global pandemic that is killing hundreds of thousands is scary so they convince themselves it's all a hoax to strip them of their freedoms, climate change is scary so it's a leftist political plot. Anything bad that gets said about their preferred politicians is simply fake news etc.

It's honestly worrying how prevalent such trains of thoughts are becoming. Facts are fact, whether they are good or bad is irrelevant, living in a dream world won't fix what's wrong.

The problem is what is or is not "fact" is being muddied and debated so much that sometimes it's hard to see which things are and are not facts

New World Order, control through fear, covert permanent altering of civil rights, etc. It's not THAT wild of a theory (aside from Covid obviously being real), mainly because the wealth of billionaires has expanded massively during Covid so yes there are very powerful people with a lot to gain, and part of a "true" New World Order would involve heavy economic restructuring anyway, and "writing off" a tonne of international debt or making it irrelevant, so the short term economic cost becomes moot.

It's conspiracy nonsense of course (... probably :joker: ...) but it's not inherently illogical.

I just couldn't imagine all world governments agreeing with and/or benefiting from it (unless a lot of them are being duped too which seems pretty far fetched)

Well you also have to remember that most of these theories are US-born and people in the US have a habit of forgetting that most of the world exists.

Yeah, it also doesn't help that it's becoming increasingly more commonplace to reject the advice of experts if they don't tell you what you want to hear.

People are placing their feelings on the same absolute pedestal as facts to the point they feel like they can reject them if they don't like it.

Common sense is taking a leave of absence and people's egos are inflating in the process. If a validated expert tells me something, I will listen whether or not I like what I'm hearing, to reject such things because it's inconvenient is arrogant.

True enough, also it seems even less likely for the US government to be involved considering how Trump has handled it and back tracked on it too, in fact he was almost acting like he thought it was a hoax himself at the beginning

Classic NWO ideology would be that there are "shadowy behind the scenes figures" doing the work and that world leaders up to and including the president are unaware or at least don't know "how deep the rabbit hole goes" when it comes to their machinations. Think "The Smoking Man" in the X-files, if you ever watched that... or "Hydra" in the MCU I suppose.

It makes for some great fiction to be fair but I honestly just don't think the world is complex enough for any of it to be true. It would require a level of secrecy and... well... competence that I just don't think actually exists. It feels much closer to reality to say "Oh god they just genuinely have no idea what they're doing, do they".

Whenever a theory, for it to be true, relies on lots of people not sharing a secret

you know its BS

There’s a bus just driven past me leaving a bus stop ... older people near the front all wearing masks ..

Teenagers at the back of the bus - masks on but under their chins or hanging on one ear ..

Therein lies the problem

Well it’s gonna be strange for anyone on the autism spectrum as they ‘tend’ to focus their eyes on other people’s mouths ( avoiding eye contact ) when interacting with them ..

Imagine thinking a mask gives you immunity to covid...how utterly ridiculous

The science behind micro-dosing is pretty solid to be honest, it's how early inoculation programmes worked. You can also microdose immunity to certain poisons and venoms .

The science supports it. You can disagree but I'd rather listen to experts who are qualified and have experience in these matters
