I love Barbados, I've been there several times and I worry about what will happen if they eventually can't pay back the massive loans China is bestowing on them for building work and roads, which is changing the fabric and culture of the country...but that's 'progress' I suppose.

Britain's Prince Charles hails ‘trusted partnership’ with Barbados as it becomes republic

[Britain’s Prince Charles has travelled to Barbados to attend a ceremony marking the Caribbean country’s transition to a republic and to highlight the “close and trusted partnership” between the two nations.
The Prince of Wales touched down at Grantley Adams Airport in the island’s capital Bridgetown where he was given a red-carpet welcome by president-elect Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Motley and Scott Furssedonn-Wood, Britain’s high commissioner to Barbados.

A military guard of honour greeted Charles and a 21-gun salute rang out across the city.
Charles, 73, was due to deliver an address to islanders shortly after midnight, local time, as Barbados begins a new chapter in its history on November 30 – becoming a republic on the country’s 55th anniversary of independence from Britain]…..

It was all very friendly, I wish lovely Barbados all the best.

They wanted off the ship before Charles took the wheel, which is understandable really. The Queen IS the Commonwealth, she's the glue holding it together, it was never going to outlast her by more than one generation in all honesty. And there'll never be anything like it again unless another monarch dies young, because Liz's long reign has been key to all of it. William I think will be a popular monarch... but he's already pushing 40 and will likely be 50+ before he's king. And beyond that, he seems like a healthy chap, so Prince George is again unlikely to see the throne until 50/60+ ... there won't be another reign like this one again. Again, of course, unless a monarch dies young (in an accident or something). Their wealth and access to literally the best healthcare imaginable means a Royal is highly unlikely to die young from poor health these days.

They're the latest in a long line of countries who have removed the Queen as head of state. To say the reason is to avoid Charles as head of state is pure conjecture. They'll still be part of the Commonwealth because it benefits them to be members.
