This song plays

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k84QxVJd0tI

Scene; it’s snowing on a lonely looking street. No one is outside and it seems quiet.

Inside a house - we see the news play and it has a COVID news report saying families will sadly not see loved ones for Christmas Day. A family look at a picture of an elderly woman, who will be along this Christmas. A tear falls from a little girls cheek. The looks at her husband and nods.

Elderly woman’s home- The elderly woman is sitting in her chair when the doorbell rings. She gets up and looks out the window to see her family outside, wearing masks, at a good distance with presents and food parcel.

The title comes up with ‘we may not be able to be in the same room, but we can still be close to our loved ones’

The end

song for my advert: michael bublé - its beginning to look a lot like christmas

my john lewis christmas advert 2020 idea

concept: so my dear, my christmas advert idea has been inspired by the whole ''Stay Home'' policies, so i was thinking into the ''Christmas from Home'' scenario even more than ever, how to create the most cosy yet very christmassy festive feeling amid these current times, since people's nightlives have been somewhat ruined by no longer being able to go out

Celebrate Christmas from Home with more love than ever before

PARMNIONs Submission

My pitch is all about the caring side that most children have that adults dont really see.*

So my ad features santa trying to come down chimney after chimney in all continents, but all the worlds kids are pushing him back up the chimney and santa is getting more and more frustrated as he moves across the world stressed out worrying that the kids cant get thier presents.

When he gets to the last house, he decides to go in through the front door to deliver the presents but is confronted by a little cockney lad covered in soot( cause hes been waiting up the chimney, but heard santa grumbling and moaning about his plight)

The little chimney sweep then tells santa its all because they love santa that much they want him to be safe from covid, and they do that cause they care and are willing to cancel thier xmas in the process....santa then cries and blames onions or something.

Call it santa we love you.

STRICTLYJAKEs Submission

John Lewis Xmas Advert 2020

The slogan to go along with this is

#Switch off and Switch on#

How this begins is a busy family

The mum is doing household chores

The Dad is doing work on his computer in the kitchen

A teenage girl is sat on her bed playing on her phone looking at social media with headphones in

A younger boy is sat with headphones on playing on a games console

A gran that lives with them is watching the news, a headline comes on saying

"Christmas is cancelled"

The gran switches off the telly and says "not on my watch"

She presses X on the screen of the dads computer clicks her fingers and the kitchen is decorated with christmas decorations and he is suddenly on a zoom chat with friends and himself and everyone else are wearing Christmas jumpers

She walks into the lounge where the mum is hoovering. She switches off the hoover gives her a hug and they start wrapping up presents

She walks into the girls room asks to listen to what the girl is listening to and switches on a song she loves on the girls phone and they dance around her bedroom together.

She walks into the boys bedroom and asks him to play a board game with her

The gran and boy and girl walk down the stairs to find the mum and dad romantically dancing together around the kitchen

They all then join in and they are all dancing around the kitchen ignoring the news that is still on the telly in the other room.

Then there is a slogan of

Switch off for a moment and Switch on

Protect each other. Love each other

(Ad fades out)

The music playing through the advert is a cover of Al Greens Lets stay together but the maroon 5 cover*

Well I'll post them, and if Kate wants me to delete, I will.

Barry - I think you nailed it. Not sure it's a John Lewis, but it's definitely a great Christmas advert. Song relates to the story and it's clear.

If it is an advert, then I think not incorporating how to shop online and, maybe throw a special offer in there somewhere for separated families, but you're not alone in making this mistake.

Blame the onions.

The Slim Reaper 27-10-2020 07:02 PM

Nicky - I'm not sure if you maybe misunderstood but this is the framework for your advert, it's not really an advert as such, but if you would have expanded on it, then it could have been really good.

The Slim Reaper 27-10-2020 07:07 PM

Parm.

It's a good ad, but the problem I have with this, is that I think you had your idea then called it a day. You could have expanded on the story more. That said, probably the least formulaic ad out of the bunch, so that gets extra brownie points.

I do have my doubts that John Lewis would use an ad that cancelled christmas, but the originality of it is the standout.

If kate cares to share the pm.. I did want to start the ad with the soot covered kid up the chimney waiting on santa watching the track santa app on his phone...then the apl told him santa was outside.....

But I had already expanded on my post in here already when I was accepted as a participant. So didnt want to show off..

Wish I bloody had now after reading strictlyjakeytheshakey and his pitch.

The Slim Reaper 27-10-2020 07:16 PM

SJ - Obviously the most in-depth proposal of the lot. I do like it, but I think when things start happening with clicky fingers, then I imagine the toys r us tune more than a quality christmas ad.

I do love the ending, and you absolutely nailed the song choice by taking a great song and using the an inferior slowed down cover.

Great effort with the messaging and a really well thought out concept, just a bit predictable with old granny clicky fingers.

MATTHEWs Submission

2 kids are writing their letters to Santa and then ask their dad whether Christmas is still going ahead this year due to Covid. The dad pauses for a few seconds and then reassures them Christmas will still happen. The scene cuts to news channels on the TV announcing more lockdowns across the country with talks of a national lockdown. The kids ask the dad if lockdown means Santa can’t come in the house. The dad pauses for a few seconds and reassures them Santa can still come and Christmas is still happening.

Christmas Eve arrives and Dad is stacking the presents underneath the Christmas Tree. The kids ask Dad what time Grandma and Grandad are coming for Christmas dinner. Dad pauses for a few seconds and tells them that they can’t come this year. The kids then ask if Grandma and Grandad can’t come then why is Santa allowed. They then ask if Christmas is really happening and the Dad reassures them.

Christmas morning arrives and Santa is filling the kids stockings, the kids see him from the top of the stairs, Dad comes out of his bedroom and sees this. He wraps his arms around his kids and tells them “What did I tell you? Christmas is happening.”

Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes plays as the rest of the advert shows the family having fun on Christmas day, eating their Christmas dinner and opening presents.

My comments

Barry. I loved your entry. It was sweet and schmaltzy.

Nicky. I think that had you fleshed it out a bit with a storyline it would have been more endearing.

Matthew. You told a lovely story and made me smile. A great effort.

Parmnion. I loved your attention to detail. Sweet. Great song choice.

StrictlyJake. You clearly gave it your all and I loved the magical aspect to it. Very evocative. Liked the slogan.
